"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Stop calling it "age verification" when mandated self-doxxing or privacy destruction is much more descriptive.

Voluntary Fraud Exposure.

Like taping your SSN to your dick and sticking outside a moving train during a blizzard.

We should stop calling these systems "age verification" because they don’t actually verify anything users just self-report their age with no proof.

It’s really "age indication," not verification.

These laws create a false sense of security while doing nothing to protect kids, and they risk harming open-source developers, small websites, and user privacy. Real verification would require ID or trusted third parties, but that’s not what’s being implemented, and it never will be at scale because of the privacy implications. Instead, we’re selling illusionary safety through meaningless clicks.

No way!!! Who else is pushing for this enshitification? People don’t want it, parents don’t want it, who does it serve? Rich and powerful who want more control, that’s who.

They can't keep the AI from telling kids to kill themselves so they want the government to step in and make it everyone else's problem before they start getting sued about it.

kill themselves

Or others for that matter.

Tumbler Ridge investigation is apparently in it's final stage. I really hope the government takes legal action against OpenAI for this. It should be classified as cyberbullying or something.

"Backed by OpenAI" should be "Backed by Desperate Rich Tech Bros Who Went All In on this Stupid, Unnecessary Widget". "OpenAI" is not a sentient being and cannot make age verification decisions.

The the ruling capitalist class that are in the Epstein files are very interested in knowing your age.

Butlerian Jihad upon this abomination.

No surprise there

But, how does AI gain anything from this?
