I'm quite surprised. From the outside, how the US appears, I would have expected Trump to do some BS or the courts threw it out because free speech for psychopaths etc. But somehow that didn't happen?

Let us not forget that the lawyer for Alex Jones sent a full copy of all Alex Jones' text messages for the past two years to the opposing counsel and did not claw them back or make any attempt or give any notice until the window passed. Meaning the opposing counsel got to sit there and call Jones out on lying on the stand, using his own words from his own private texts. It really hurt his credibility with the jury, I imagine.

p.s. Sorry you can't read whole source without a work around.

That is an astonishing fuckup

It's very difficult for these asshats to get decent lawyers because most lawyers care about win rates and their public perception to gain clients

Not really that astonishing though...

Alex Jones had credibility to lose?

Are the text messages not evidence that would have had to be turned over to the opposing counsel anyway? Don’t really know how the whole lawyering thing works

[–] HappyCatLuvs_U@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

To that point, as far as I know, he had denied having any relevant messages and not turned them over, despite being required to.

Jones was always just an independent grifter. Its not like he was in Trump's inner circle. Also Jones lost the case over a year ago. I think the verdict came out under the Biden regime.

Because the country is more divided than ever and Republicans just want you to thunk MAGA has a chokehold everywhere. They dont. Also, Jones is a peripheral not the main cast in Magaland.

Jones has used up all his capital and his buddies are too busy dodging their own lawsuits/criminal charges is how it happened.

He was just that egregious. Also fascists don't have solidarity really, he "peaked" a decade ago and no one cares about him anymore, not even his supposed allies. In short, he is a joke and everyone knows it.

Let's just say he made the grave mistake of disrespecting dead children, and that pissed off too many people, prompting a class action.

Let's also not forget the shitshow that is the court proceeding, where his lawyer 'accidentally' leaked his text, and he went with a no-show.

Last but not least, he's never in Trump's circle. He acts like he is, but those people probably don't even know he exists.
