For the love of fuck, we're using apostrophes to conjugate verbs now too?

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Can't even blame this one on autocorrect, we've gone full apostrophe means "here comes an s"

I use the apostrophe whenever I'm too lazy to type the proper letter. Like:

''''' ''''' '''' ''' ''

''''' ''''' ''' ''' ''''

''''' ''''' ''' '''''' ''' '''''' '''

A lot of people aren’t native speakers and also this is an easy error to make even for native speakers.

In some languages you use an apostrophe for pluralization in some cases. But even that doesn't make sense for the one in the OP.

What languages use an apostrophe for plurals?

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Dutch for example.

Interesting. From a quick look, seems like it only applies to some borrowed words, nothing native to the language?

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Mhm, I can only think of loan words yes.

He said language, not dialect. Swamp German doesn't count
