I remember trying to read what I think was the first novel, and frankly being really disappointed with how it ended.
I don't even know if I started the second novel, because the second book I read seemed so completely detached I was utterly confused and lost about what was going on.
Probably for the best that a dense, confusing story isn't crammed down into a show.

Couldn't wrap up the rights most likely
they did that in 2021. would be a bit silly to start working on a series without IP rights.

I don’t see a problem with this. Not every IP needs to exist in every media type.
