Is it getting to the point where we have to censor normal words too?

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@piefed.social 30 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Why the FUCK are we FUCKING censoring FUCKS on the internet, dammit? You can say FUCK on the internet! Jesus FUCKING christ, are we going to cater to some prudes on the internet who don't want to see a bad word?

[–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 hours ago

Congrats, you fell on the engagement bait.

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 hours ago

Uh, the word being censored is obviously "~~frank~~". I'm all for using mid tier swears like "fuck', but let's not totally devolve into degeneracy.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Just don't say fr*nch around me

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@piefed.social 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah well, there are words that you shouldn't say in public, it's a matter of decency.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

I mean Jesus fucking Christy Christ. Some people have absolute potty mouths.

[–] wrinkle2409@lemmy.cafe 10 points 1 day ago

France belongs in its own group: the best. No you guys are not invited. Keep hating :D

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 4 points 1 day ago

I was just going to say, I don't think the French see it like that.

Bordeaux -> Bordó

That's worse than English!

[–] plyth@feddit.org 4 points 19 hours ago

Spain has a lot of Celtic (central and north Spain are often included in the Celtic nations, although the celtic language has been lost), Germanic (Goth, Visigoth, and many other tribes), Latin, Moorish, Phoenician, and others in the mix. Maybe that is why so many Europeans like it in Spain.

Also, remember that the French invented chauvinism, which basically says " fuck you, non French"

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe that is why so many Europeans like it in Spain.

The weather and that it's one of the last Western countries where ACTUAL left wing (rather than liberals masquerading as left wing) politics is still considered viable on a national level might help too 🤷🏻

[–] Vinny_93@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Vinny_93@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago

I can't watch it, it's under my nose.

Much like Belgium is unwatchable because it's under my Rijn.

[–] gnufuu@infosec.pub 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So we're just making up countries now?

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Somewhere in the middle of Western Europe!

The English imitate the French language a lot, so I'd say they are worst for keeping away from France

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

English has more words than french because it has all the french words + their own English words

[–] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That's not unique to the French language though. English a bit of borrowed from everywhere. Germanic, French, Latin... even Indian languages have borrowed words here.

[–] SuluBeddu@feddit.it 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah, what I meant was more like the pronunciation, especially some English accents have more to do with French than with Scottish or Irish

As an Italian, I have no trouble understanding Spanish and reading French and Latin words in English. But listening to French and English accents is on another world to me 😅

[–] 10TH_OF_SEPTEMBER_CALL@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

[–] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 0 points 19 hours ago (4 children)

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 1 points 10 hours ago

Mark Normand has barely conquered his own stand up special.

[–] 10TH_OF_SEPTEMBER_CALL@hexbear.net 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

normands. u know that time some french vikings kicked your ass and ruled over you guys before the german kingdom?

[–] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 1 points 6 hours ago

France, the land of the frankish tribe (germans) is a tiny region above Paris.

Everything else is a patchwork of countries under parisian occupation - britanny is celtic, the south west is bask contry, occitania is way closer to spain and italy, not including the bask country. Lorraine is close to germany as well, the lille region belongs to flanders and so on.
