Donald Trump said Sunday that if no peace deal is reached with Iran in the next 48 hours, "we're blowing up the entire country."

The president made the threat Sunday to ABC News' senior political correspondent Rachel Scott in response to a question regarding whether his previously stated timeline of two to three weeks for a deal was still accurate.

Concerns have been raised about targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran and the consequences that could bring.

No nukes! Somebody please stop that idiot from using nukes!!

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 2 points 44 minutes ago

Everyone and his dog will be getting a nuclear weapon if that happens. The future of humanity will be very bleak indeed.

[–] WolfmanEightySix@piefed.social 4 points 3 hours ago

Yea, cause they’re doing so well so far.

Which one is it? 4th time?

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 18 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

No longer does the country collectively agree to push forward on war. Now it's just one guy who triggers very easily. WTF!?

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world -1 points 44 minutes ago

And that one guy is Netanyahu

[–] BlackLaZoR@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago

Always has been

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It's not just 1 guy, it's most of the current administration. And 84% of the people that voted for Trump, still stand by their vote!!

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 6 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (3 children)

I think your math is old. Trump is the least popular potus ever across all population sectors now.

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

I keep hearing this and I also keep reading how those same people who now think he's unpopular, also voted for him 3 times and would vote for him again.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Stats don't lie, MAGA does

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

The numbers are 3 days old, and were posted here.

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

He's so unpopular, he can start a war on twatter while shitting, and the whole country happily does what he wants no question asked.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 16 points 7 hours ago

“we’re blowing up the entire country.”

What country is that? USA?
For those not aware, Trump is actively destroying USA not Iran.
For every escalation USA is just making it worse for themselves.

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 10 points 9 hours ago

Remember the big present and that no one knew who was leading the country but he’s talking to the right people and they gave a beautiful prize

[–] leriotdelac@lemmy.zip 21 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

There's no salvation for this man. I hope someone stops him, and my thoughts are with civilians of the region.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 5 points 7 hours ago

Blud, my thoughts are with all of us that didn't sign up to be part of this fucking insanity.

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 23 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

so let me get this straight. Just so I'm clear, it's unfair when Iran blockades. But when dumpy does it to cuba, that's perfectly fine?

[–] RosaLuxemburgsGhost@lemmy.ml 5 points 8 hours ago

Only the imperialists have the right to self-determination. None of the rest of us….and that includes the workers within the imperial core.

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world 18 points 13 hours ago

He is manipulating markets

[–] GreenBeanMachine@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (2 children)

I still have hope that he's dead or dying. Has anyone seen him alive yet, other than tweets which anyone can post?

[–] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 hours ago

he is not dead. vance wouldn't wait a second for his promotion. dying... who knows.

Reminds me of this classic Andy Griffith Show scene from the Opie and the Bully episode.

“So you want to fight? Step across this line. Alright, knock this off my shoulder, I dare you. So you wanna fight huh? Just step inside this circle.” 😆

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

We watched all but the last season or two of Andy Griffith during covid. Once Barney left we left.

Here is the clip.

[–] melfie@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Yeah, the series definitely overstayed it’s welcome.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 2 points 57 minutes ago

I wish we had made the decision to drop Facts of Life earlier those last two seasons are painful.

He remembered how bored he got after he had solved the conflict in Ukraine on day one.

Imo he has been looking for any excuse to launch a nuclear bomb since he first became president. I don't even think he cares why, how, or who he ends up using it on, even if it's his own people. As long as he gets to use his ultimate power as president and press that big button. And as long as he isn't personally affected he won't even give it a second thought.

I firmly believe he WILL nuke someone before his term is up if nobody stops him. I firmly believe people have already stopped him before.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 7 hours ago

He wants to be remembered, and he knows that there's only one reason people remember Truman

[–] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

there is no big button that trump presses, that is the myth. the suitcase being carried with him, for some strange reason called nuclear football, is basically just a sat-phone that connects him to some joint chiefs operations center. from there, there is a long chain of command leading to some soldiers in silo somewhere, who actually have the button. anyone in that chain of command can still say no and break the chain.

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

The "big red button" is a metaphor.

[–] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

bad one, since it can give you really incorrect impression, like "trump can one day wake up and press the big red button". which he can't do, because there is no such button. good metaphors try to help understand the thing they describe, this one does exactly the opposite.

Imo he has been looking for any excuse to launch a nuclear bomb since he first became president

I think I'd prefer he bombed a hurricane.
