Treating communism as an outside contex problem akin to aliens is hilarious

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 26 points 6 days ago (2 children)

It's even more funny when you think about what they're excluding. Apparently communism is an outside natural disaster, but fascism isn't? An absolutely mind-blowing way of looking at the world

[–] facow@hexbear.net 22 points 6 days ago

Facism is as American as apple pie, the Europeans were just copying our homework.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago

makes a kind of sense. fascism is the natural consequence of america, while communism in america would require a) neostalin not stopping ever ever at all ever or b) a literal miracle

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

it's essentially the ur-fascist position

[–] facow@hexbear.net 13 points 6 days ago (1 children)

An outside context problem is something so outside your culture/frame of reference it's impossible to predict beforehand or combat when it arises.

An Outside Context Problem was the sort of thing most civilisations encountered just once, and which they tended to encounter rather in the same way a sentence encountered a full stop.

Which I fucking wish sadness

nice now I can give the word "ontological" a rest.

What do you think all the alien invasion movies, that were so popular during a certain period of history, were an allegory for?

[–] indorri@hexbear.net 30 points 6 days ago (2 children)

This is why gay liberation is only possible under communism, we need to team up with the communists to summon a hyper-hurricane to wipe out our oppressors.

[–] PaulSmackage@hexbear.net 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They'd actually go through with firing a nuke at a hurricane if this were to happen.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 29 points 6 days ago (2 children)

So they’re saying communism is natural?

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 21 points 6 days ago

They're saying they can't stop us sicko-yes

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago

Comparable to a wildfire that clears the dead brush, in fact

[–] fannin@hexbear.net 26 points 6 days ago

Is he referring to trump as if most US citizens voted for him? Same person won this time as has every time: didn't vote.

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 24 points 6 days ago (2 children)

From the dust jacket blurb in the latest edition "A Toddler's Guide to the American Civic Religion"

This is something I've spoken about before, but this is how people in the west, the US especially, are trained to view communism/communists. Not as political theory, not as ideas, not as people following those ideas, but as some kind of outside force, some sort of satanic temptation that can only corrupt and destroy, that will emerge from outside and consume all until nothing is left.

In school I remember being very confused by the idea of "domino theory" that as one nation after another "falls" to communism it will spread one by one to the next nation, like dominoes knocking each other over, and yet, there was no mechanism for why this happens, it just happens despite communism being obviously bad and obviously horrible and no one ever wanting it or wanting communists to show up, they just kind of appear like an alien invasion out of nowhere and force communism upon everyone.

Moving over to the Spectre Overlay now we can see communism fomenting in the south east forming a solid bloc of resistance in the everglades, so if you're out fishing stay outside the red flags and try to avoid direct contact with wild Maoists.

Heading up from there however its bright sunny days for the great white north west as rays of benevolent sunshine wash away the last of the season's proletarian struggle as markets open back up. Over to you Rob.
