For me, that vitamin is amphetamines. The imposter syndrome never goes away - I still feel like I've faked my way into the hilariously awesome management position I finally have after 15 years in the same industry - but most of my coworkers truly wouldn't know I'm ADHD unless I told them.

I just have to avoid Japan, I guess.

[–] AugustWest@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The approval process is supposedly a pain, but Japan allows Vyvanse now.

Maybe now there will be fewer hikikomoris, and their birth rate will go up

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

If the doctors force their way into hikikomoris' homes, then maybe.

I constantly alternate between this and "it's incredibly obvious to everyone that I have ADHD." Usually remembering that other people can't see inside my head pushes me back into the "nobody would realize that I have ADHD unless I told them."

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

I’m very honest with my coworkers about ADHD because it means that I’m not working at night because I can’t.

But also I was missing SSRIs too. Both together make me feel like I can do anything! Even though I still am a lazy piece of shit.

pictures for sad children.

[–] VivianRixia@piefed.social 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

For me that missing vitamin was estrogen. It was like I was like someone was putting diesel fuel in a regular gas car. It's fuel. But that's car is not going to do so hot. And I wish the second part happened and not people getting upset that you are not running on diesel like all the other diesel vehicles.

Same girl, always knew something was wrong, but couldn't fathom what.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 19 points 1 week ago (11 children)

My missing vitamin was methylphenidate and nobody admired me for persevering.

I was hoping this would be how my cpap would work. It helps but twas no magic bullet

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Definitely beats waking up with a massive headache and cramps every day.

[–] Dazharion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, same here. I think it used to help more but I dunno what's going on now. Granted I haven't changed the filter in like a year, that probably ain't helping.

[–] Alk@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

AYO MY HOMIE CHANGE THAT FILTER. I'LL SEND YOU SOME IF YOU NEED THEM. A year old filter is very alarming. Please also wash the tank and hose at least once per month.

[–] hkspowers@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago

I thought the same way but then I went on vacation after a few years using it, and I didn't bring the cpap with me.... Let me tell you, I now bring it with me for any kind of overnight trip. I felt so terrible on my vacation especially right after waking up and my throat hurt so much. I guess in my case it was like how you don't notice your own aging so much because you see yourself everyday, but when you visit a relative after a while they notice a massive diference.

Shout-out to my good friend, vitamin B12 supplements! B12 deficiency causes what I describe as "weird nerve stuff" symptoms. Pins and needles on the hands, super high heartbeat when I stand (as opposed to my normal high heartbeat, thanks POTS), a cotton wool inside my scalp feeling (similar to skipping your venlafaxine pill).

I do not recommend being deficient in B12. Luckily, it's hard to be deficient on unless you're a vegan or take a medication that depletes your B12.

or are missing specific genes or body parts.

House MD did a number to fuel this.

What, you didn't tell me they were an utter disaster in other parts of their life!! This changes everything. Hastily hobbles with a bottle from over the counter

[–] olafurp@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You could get this info from a blood test. Could be worth a trip if you haven't been there in a while.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've gotten so many blood tests and unfortunately whatever seems to be wrong is not a simple vitamin fix. I hoped it was!

[–] olafurp@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I was vegetarian diet for a year and ended up anemic. Found out when donating blood so they prescribed me iron pills and told me to come back in a couple of months.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They've checked iron. Sometimes it's low, but not super low. They've checked b12, and while taking supplements for that helps, it's only like, a bit more energy. It's a lot going on.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

my problem ultimately ended up being structural. musculoskeletal. once we started accounting for that damage we were able to make the improvement we needed. don't rule anything out.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It'll take years on average to find out what's wrong with me, given numbers. And unfortunately my insurance will end this year so it's. Well. We'll see what happens!

Nobody else had a severe vitamin D deficiency that worked like this? It didn’t fix everything, but it’s a huge difference. Nobody praised me for persevering though 🥺

[–] jupiter_jazz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I do/did. Apparently that's one reason why I was so tired

[–] Catoblepas@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

I hope you’re feeling better now, fellow survivor of deficiency of The Vitamin!

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 2 points 1 week ago

I did but it didn't make me happier when I fixed it.

Depression rather than ADHD, but I have a (not extraordinarily uncommon) gene mutation that keeps me from properly metabolizing folate (vitamin B9), which means that my antidepressants weren't working properly. I have to take a modified vitamin supplement (l-methylfolate) daily along with my cocktail of antidepressants and mood stabilizers.

It doesn't make me magically awesome, but it helps more than you'd think. So maybe check with your doctor to see if there's a DNA test you should get in case there's something that might make a difference.

[–] weariedfae@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Motherfucker Gene Mutants Represent!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who calls it that

I’ve started taking a medication that completely changed my life and it felt like this. Then I did it with another one. And another one. Now I’m working on a fourth one.

Turns out there was a lot wrong with me.

[–] Phil_in_here@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

I cannot stress how deeply I want the first part to happen and how deeply I want the second part not to happen.

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

(The Vitamin™ is Vyvanse.)

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I seem to remember this meme ending with a joke about taking estrogen.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

I have this exact fantasy lol. Hoped the meds would make a complete world of difference but its been meh. And I'm told my ADHD was only mild. So I can't blame it for me being a weirdo

[–] zerobot@lemmy.wtf 2 points 1 week ago

i will suck your dick for some vitamins

[–] not_woody_shaw@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago
[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago
