Haha, sucks for you; I don't have that problem. My tea stays warm!

punchline

(It started off with ice in it.)

Thank you for reminding me I still haven't bought a new water bottle after I lost my last one!

I’m tempted to buy one of those battery heated coffee mugs, but they all use an app and seem terrible for the environment.

You can use a plug-in candle warmer to fairly good effect, as long as you start with hot liquid.

There's a $40 one sold at Walmart, Ion brand, no app at all, plugs in the wall, not USB.

It worked well... for about a year. The metal contacts on the bottom corroded, and the battery duration dropped. I'm using a four-dollar candle warmer now, it's the better choice.

Put it in a Yeti, problem solved. Those cupwarmers are neat tho

[–] dime577@fedinsfw.app 2 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, I typically hate brand name stuff, but 100% of my knockoff tumblers and bottles have had their vacuum fail in under a year while my free yeti has been going strong for 5 years.

I actually have to add cold water or ice to be able to drinking it within 2 hours.

Oh man I have two of those and the other day I took a sip of chunky coffee because it was the week old one that I forgot about.

If you have any sugar in your drink (including: milk, fruit tea) you need to rinse it out daily or you will get a rotten stank/flavor that doesn’t seem to wash out.

To get rid of it, you just need to remove any seals and soak everything in warm water with a little denture cleaner or oxi-clean. I usually just put the gaskets inside the cup with a little cleaner, set the lid on, and fill it until it just starts to overflow. This will also remove any tea/coffee stains and you can use those to gauge whether it has soaked long enough.

Yeah I don't try to leave it full I just forget about it sometimes.

[–] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 2 points 15 hours ago

Oh I get it. My Darling will find cups or even full meals in the microwave that I left there days ago.

lol that’s the worst

I hope your immune system got stronger from the workout (and that you didn’t get sick)

I keep 3-4 cups at work..

One short stout thermal mug that won’t tip over when I forget where it is and hit it.

1-2 narrower thermal mugs (in case I forget one at home) that will fit in my car cup holders to transfer any tea I forgot to finish at the end of the day. Or just for a fresh road cup.

One ceramic mug to reheat in the microwave any that I left too long in the steeper or with the lid off the thermal mug.

I bought an Ember Mug and despite it being pretty pricey I haven't regretted it one bit.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I’m so tempted by these things.

I drink a lot of cold coffee because I forget I have coffee.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 0 points 14 hours ago

I get that they aren't cheap but the quality of life for me was so worth it.

[–] DScratch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

My partner and I got one each. She stopped using hers so now I have one on charge all the time.

Also! If your charging base contact pins get sticky and corroded, a spray of WD-40 and some light poking fixes them right up, and seems to delay further issues.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Preemptive dielectric grease could be a good option for the pins

I recently started using my travel mug even when at home. Keeps it warm enough to drink for several hours and has a lid for when i inevitably knock it over.

[–] ButteryMonkey@piefed.social 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I tried this with tea, as a regular coffee drinker, and immediately burned my mouth off. It doesn’t cool down the same speed as my coffee in the same mug, because there’s no milk added to pre-cool it.

If I try it again it would have to be cooled with ice, and I probably will because I don’t like cold tea much, but if I wait for it to cool on its own I’m likely to overshoot and end up with cold tea.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

I have used ice in the past but usually i just leave the lid off for a bit if the beverage is too hot.
