i kinda liked how in the hitchhikers guide. they usually find the person who least wants the job and force him to do it.

[–] bhamlin@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago

Or realized that anyone who actually wanted the job was inherently unqualified for it. So they let it be a popularity contest and ran everything themselves behind the scenes.

Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job

Aliens "You guys didn't understand, we came to enslave you"

Population "Those guys and their owners already did"

Proceed to show reality on labor around the world...

Aliens "By the holy spaghetti monster, that's horrifing"

We don't need to wait for aliens to do this for us. We have the means, motive and opportunity. We just need to find the courage. A better world is possible.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I have neither the means nor the opportunity

[–] bearboiblake@pawb.social 4 points 11 hours ago

As an individual, no, none of us individually can do it, we need to build a worker-led movement through activist efforts and industrial unions. I'd suggest joining the IWW to learn about how to join or form a union at your workplace, read an anarchist FAQ to arm yourself with the knowledge you need, and get involved with activist efforts in your area to network with locals who share our vision of a better world, to build solidarity, and to actually start building that better world, one step at a time.

No excuses! Courage is easy to come by. It even comes in a bottle.

It's a humiliating way to enter the galactic community. We would never live it down. But we could use some humbling. I'd accept the help.

Forward, not backward!
Upward, not forward!
And always twirling, twirling towards freedom.

You don't need to be from the same country as someone that's known world wide to recognise them...
