What's truly "stunning" is that so many people actually thought he was going to better on the economy, in the first place.

[–] Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.world 32 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Lots of people somehow hadn't heard that he sent casinos into bankruptcy four times.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 18 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

A guy I work with actually cited that as proof that he was smart, since he actually walked away free and clear after making a ton of money off the deal. Apparently, even bankruptcies are considered "successful" now.

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 28 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

And that guy almost gets it... trump is successful at burning everyone else and walking away with the money. Which is exactly what he's doing with the presidency.

He isn't a successful businessman, he is a successful conman. Idiots can't tell the difference.

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

He is making the classic mistake of thinking that he would be Trump in this scenario, and not the casino employee who lost their job

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

LOL, dumbass donnie talked about low gas prices before he came into office the second time and just a few days ago said high gas prices will make us a lot of money.

Consistency is not really something that conservatives do....

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, money-laundering requires a different skill set than running a business.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 4 points 3 weeks ago

"But Joe Biden used american oil reserves to lower gas prices!"

  • that was a real argument with me
[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Guess they were not watching him in the first term, LOL.

But then, they don't really look at how W handled things, either.

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Trumps first term got saved by Jerome Powell. Economy wise he didn’t do anywhere near as much damage as this time around. On top of handing out covid checks and printing money like crazy people think he did an ok job even though JPow was holding the economy together with scotch tape.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

That's the irony, isn't it? The bumbling fool would have been even worse off if it wasn't for the guy he's trying to have investigated for bullshit reasons.

Did he even say thank you once? Where is James Bowman when Donvict could really use him?

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

It was a race to the bottom to see who could be shittier.

Actually, I guess it was a race to the top; which party can siphon the most out of the American public and send it to the top (i.e. billionaires).

Even more stunning is how many people think the midterms are either going to be A. Honest and free or B. Change a goddamn thing

[–] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Midterms, like all elections, are run by the states. The states will be sending their elected leaders to Washington next year. I'm confident that the midterms in my state will be honest and free.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Not if the SAVE act passes. It breezed through the House. It might not make it through the Senate, but if it does, that one act will federalize elections, in addition to disenfranchising almost every married woman in the country.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

What are you looking to change? Really the best we can hope for is stalemate. If democrats gain enough seats, cons won’t be able to pass more damaging bills nor rubberststamp donvict. Hopefully we’ll see resistance to donvicts evasion of constitutional checks and balances.

But given the partisan divide, without the white house and a filibuster-proof majority, there’s not much hope for starting the recovery

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 43 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

“Independents” don’t really exist anymore. There are non-voters, and people who won’t admit they’re Republican.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

There are non-voters, and people who won’t admit they’re Republican.

Ain't that the truth. Most especially that last part.

They are more properly called reactionary centrists. And boy, do they looooove Murc's Law. That's the tell.

[–] hesh@quokk.au 2 points 3 weeks ago

Independents also include leftists

[–] PumpkinEscobar@lemmy.world 34 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

and said there’s “no way” Republicans can win under these circumstances

Congress is made up of 94% Israeli uniparty

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

We've got Bebee netanyahooos kid to lead the party. We are announcing Israel as the 51st state. We also hired a pedophile cabinet to better reach across the isle.

Voters: don't tell US what's best for us.

[–] Uranus_Hz@lemmy.zip 24 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

This is why there will be a false flag attack on US soil and elections get “postponed”.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 11 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

There is no precedent of postponing elections in the U.S. There were elections even during the American Civil War.

Of course precedent doesn't seem to mean a fucking thing these days.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

There was "no precedent" before for a a LOT of things that are currently happening right now. Precedent isn't going to save us.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

100% this is gonna happen.

[–] booly@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

There have been examples of postponements of elections for emergencies (most notably, the mayoral primaries in New York scheduled on September 11, 2001 had to be postponed for 14 days later), I'm not aware of any instance of an actual changing of swear-in dates being postponed.

Fuckery can still happen, but I'm more worried about threats and governmental terrorism that suppresses votes on the election day that moves forward as scheduled rather than actually moving the election schedule itself.

[–] Oodlenoodlenoo@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

If elections ever get postponed/canceled I'm following Lincoln's advice and saying whatever country attacked us has won whatever war they were fighting

[–] favoredponcho@lemmy.zip 21 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

You can fuck with children, just don’t fuck with gas prices.

[–] Thalion@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 weeks ago

You can fuck ~~with~~ children, just don’t fuck with gas prices.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Oh they’re going to fuck children
