Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

I'm sure Kamala would have been jUsTaSbAd

"patriotic" = Pro Trump in what passes for his mind.

It wont be long now and US will be the roughly the same boat as NK

hello State Propaganda channels. All lies, all the time.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So how's that going to change? This is a thing I don't think they understand. It always has been. It just no longer has possible deniability like it had in the past.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It could possibly be denied.. but whether it's plausible deniability is up for inspection.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

lol yeah said plausible but stt decided possible and I didn't check. Fewer and fewer people have cable anymore, let alone access to the 24-hour cable news channel. The broadcast news, which has never truly been trustworthy, has completely lost the veneer with ghouls like Barri Weiss at CBS. It's all clearly bullshit anymore. The only real issue is what good sources can we really point people to generally. I have plenty that I follow, but none of them have that fake vinear that so many people look for.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Hmmm. What are your sources, if I may ask?

I have been somewhat adrift for the past few years and am down to reading political essays and indy journals, a smattrering of regional newspapers, (Bangor Daily News, etc..) foreign sources - El Pais, The Guardian, and a few 'general news' sites that haven't gone too far off the rails yet.

I browse through The Atlantic, The New Republic, Rolling Stone, and the Harvard Business Review (which actually digs into more than just business, but does a bang up job explaining best practices which more often than not, ends up pointing the directions things will go in..) and Wired, slashdot and The Register for tech oriendted news.. am always looking for more good sources of info.

To be fair, how will you tell the difference from FOX News?

[–] chahn.chris@piefed.social 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I thought questioning the government WAS patriotic in the US.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Only if you're spewing racist conspiracy theories sponsored by wealthy people, aka Fox News.

And people still act like our society isn't led by mass media.

And americans are taking it as seriously as they should...

That's really the problem. There weren't enough interested people during the election and they STILL are mostly checked out.

It's really depressing just knowing you're at the mercy of the ignorant and the apathetic because they just clearly outnumber everyone who sees all this for what it really is.

Should open every morning's broadcast with a Soviet style patriotic bellowing of the national anthem, complete with happy farmhands slinging hay with pitchforks as they sing along!

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I don't know about starting the broadcast (I'm not a morning person), but I know one of my local TV stations used to end the broadcast at night by playing the state song before going off air. I used to see it sometimes if I dozed off and left the TV on for an hour or so after the midnight Deep Space Nine rerun.

Deep Space Nine, Night Man (which was very mediocre, BTW), Georgia On My Mind, static.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just like back in elementary school.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

You were slinging hay with pitchforks in elementary school?! That must've been awesome.. and slightly terrifying at the same time!

LOL! Yaah, I get it though..

[–] Kronusdark@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How many people still get their news over the air? Genuine question.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 2 points 1 day ago

People with less privilege do.
