Against all odds they found a worse future to pursue than forcing employees to strap VR goggles to their heads 40 hours a week, and have pivoted towards AI.

And toward mass surveillance.

When you look deep into who's pushing all these new 'age verification' laws all the sudden, Meta's fingerprints are all over it.

In a rational world, that fiasco would have resulted in shareholders angrily blowing the e-mail inboxes and telephones of every member of the board of directors and Zuckerberg would have resigned in shame years ago.

Yea, don't really have much sympathy for Meta investors, they continue to give money to a company where the founder has a 51% voting share.

Well, it's not really a rational world. I mean, Tesla stockholders somehow still want Elon in charge despite sales, brand value, public perception, and product quality declining under his watch.

Seriously. Instead he announced he was going to be throwing somewhat less money into that specific dumpster fire and the investors decided that was worth 4%.

Both customers will still be able to get Horizon Worlds on a mobile phone

I loled

Imagine how much money was spent on this...

[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 12 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

You don't have to!

The answer is $77 billion USD!

Because the amount of money that billionaires have is not proportional to the true value of that money.

It is literally impossible for Elon Musk to spend all of his money without fucking up the entire global economic system, unless every country perfectly predicts and accommodates for a massive inflation event.

Money is not Money in the way it used to be.

The value has been stretched to such a silly proportion, that when Meta burns $77 billion, they just keep on going. They just write it off. It's fucking ridiculous that human value is not even represented by currency.

All of this shit is fucking phantom money, it's a concept in numbers, nothing more.

If you earn $15/h, it would take you 7 million years to reach the same wealth as these dickheads who don't look at you as anything other than a digit on a spreadsheet.

It's sickening. And if you're not fucking pissed, you should be.

In hindsight, it wasn't the best of ideas.

I mean, it was obvious at the time as well, but nevertheless

just a reminder, vrchat is still hella popular and alive

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

Once again I see more warmth and depth of emotion in that avatar than in the man it's based on.

@dgerard I imagine their users are furious. Both of them
