I first played in the open beta (I think it was open or closed, dunno, been so long) and I remember the 2nd classes not coded yet for north america. And yeah thieves were op, I had a swordsman and a thief I believe.
I never played this game, is it any fun to start or is it only fun for nostalgia?
If you like arpgs like Diablo with skills and an emphasis on gear hunting you might enjoy it.

It's a set item that goes with an undershirt to raise agility and dodge, considered higher end equip. Why a pantie, no clue, but male characters wear them as well!

So much ks on this sever, that's the only draw back, since it's pre-renewal all the spots are populated with people clamoring over each other to kill mobs.

Hey people fight in their underwear in Dark Souls, how's this different?
It's such a common item, but I love the Sakkat. Probably my favorite hat cuz it's so iconic with the assassin sprite. I've had this server installed for like a year and just barely played, but maybe I'll jump into it this weekend. I've never really played RO with more than like 1 other person at a time. Maybe we just get a Hexbear guild going? I'm sure it's easy enough to afford the Emperium on a server like this.
Edit: I am remembering last time I tried to play I want to get into the Taiwan server because it's apparently the most up-to-date and best official experience now, taking the crown from jRO. But you need to VPN into Taiwan and can't make an account without an ID, I believe. It's also got an optional(?) subscription. So a dozen hoops to get through to even try it out. Similar to kRO. 
the sakkat is pretty cheap to buy on this server around 2-300k, that's one or two quick farms and it's agi+1. Sure we could make a guild might be fun!
the last MMO i ever played
This is my first time really playing ro again (aside from a stint playing the retail server last year) in years. I was active in the north american beta way before even job change to 2-1 classes where a thing. It's nice people keep the game alive. I'm hoping someday someone makes a true beta classic server with just the 1-1 jobs.
Is it a US or EU server? I'd drop in but I recall RO plays very badly cross region.

k! it's very easy to get a footing on this server since most high end gear is priced reasonably and you can farm easily and casually many items for an income stream.
It's cool anything above 1x rates will feel lightning fast to me. I played official pre-renewal.
Yeah it's 5x so it's not that bad, plus there's turn in quests for exp, battle manuals which double exp, and weekends are double exp
