I went through this a while ago. It's because he's an unthreatening big softy. I watched a show called "Play It Cool Guys" where all the boys are all depicted as big idiots and teddy bears and came to the realisation that it's not really men that's the problem it's how threatening they always behave. When they get into the totally unthreatening teddy bear safe zone they become attractive again.
