My wife, who is super into and out of Firefly fandom is both happy and sad. I don't know how to feel.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I got into it because of her. She hasn't revealed how she feels. Think she's still processing it. I made sure not to say anything until somebody was official because I didn't want to give her an emotional roller coaster

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I'm also into Firefly because of Crackhappy's wife and she seemed excited when I told her last night

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 55 minutes ago

You win an internet.

[–] Echrichor@feddit.uk 1 points 10 hours ago

I think that's probably how many feel. Happy that there is something that is new firefly, but sad that it's not live action. Hopefully the one thing will lead to more of the other though, if successful

[–] fubarx@lemmy.world 9 points 14 hours ago

It's set in the time before Serenity, so both Wash and Book are still alive. No need to come up with story contortions. Just re-cast for Ron Glass.

Also, animated means they can keep doing more for a long time without having to explain the actors aging and why they can't do crazy stunts or ride horses.

Win, win.

... As long as it includes YoSafBridge.

Shiny.

I've always thought an animated series would be the perfect way to continue it, amazing to see it finally happening.

Yeah, it's really the only way they could have done it at this point. I'm hoping the creators/writers do it justice; I heard that Joss Whedon won't be involved. Say what you will about the man, but he wrote damn compelling characters.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

And the dialogue. If there's a line you really love from a Whedon show, chances are high he wrote it himself.

Never seen Firefly but you guys are very passionate about it and so I hope this goes well! Might check it out, I am a fan of animated sci-fi.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Picture Star Trek but the Federation is the bad guys trying to interrupt your snuggling job.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 10 points 11 hours ago

If someone interrupts my snuggling they are going to catch hell

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

I’ll be in my bunk

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Mkay - are we retconning Wash's demise, or will this be set well enough before that? Because I'm not sure I can commit without him.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

If I were in charge I would pretend Wash never dies. Go right past the movie time period and cover Reaver reveal from a different angle. The movie becomes beta canon and everyone winks at each other when they talk about the death of Wash.

Since this universe has no magic of time travel to magic the problem away I think it's best to just wink and nod.

Also the concept art looks great! It'll be animated by the studio that did Bojack Horseman (though they're probably more known for their stop-motion animation on Adult Swim like Robot Chicken)

[–] medicsofanarchy@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Kaylee?

Edit: And Simon, of course.

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Convenient that they're the two not there, doncha think?

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe they are in their bunk.

Hey, now - "their bunk"?!? Let's not get ahead of where the new show is starting off from, eh?

[–] BryyM@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

This was a good choice I think, both because the actors are much older and it allows for some more wacky funny visuals.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Will full cast? Y'all forget about Ron Glass?

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Sheppard Book lives. Alan Tudyck's star hasn't dimmed. Ron Glass is dead. Hoban Washburne is a leaf on the wind.

[–] threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Sheppard Book lives

Didn't they mount his corpse on the front of their ship to sneak past the Reavers? Pretty sure he was dead at that point.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

This takes place before serenity.

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Umm, you know a necromancer?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Oh good. We'll need one for Wash too.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

We can just cast his brother, Rinse

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Don’t forget his other brother dry

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

nobody ever casts the black sheep of the family, Repeat!

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Wash will still be there, Alan Tudyk hasn't passed yet. It says the series will take place in the couple year gap between the end of the series and Serenity!

They said they knew one, not that they could get them to do it - let alone afford it. Too bad we couldn't get him to Miracle Max while he was only mostly dead.

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Gotcha, gotcha... do you wanna start the GoFundMe or should I?

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Don't you need to have a goal to set first?

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yea the goal is “help us raise funds to resurrect Shepard Book”.

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 1 points 20 hours ago

yeah, what the CIA said.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Please give it to the same studio that did Lower Decks! They nailed the lore and the humor.

Also they'd better get a different actor to voice Jayne

[–] Bhaelfur@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

It's looking like it'd be ShadowMachine; they did Robot Chicken, Bojack Horseman, and a bunch of other stuff.

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why, what's wrong with Adam Baldwin? Or did you mean Shepard Book?

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Homophobic, transphobic, racist, anti-abortion, all-around asshole human. He used to say wild hateful stuff on Twitter back in the day, I'm fairly certain he got banned for it

Ugh! Didn't know. Yeah, that's a move I could get behind in light of that. Unfortunately, according to the Deadline article he's already committed to "lending his voice" even though he wasn't physically there for the announcement.

Maybe we'll get lucky and his fellow cast members will help him get back to reality a bit - especially considering it's slowly becoming harder to be anything but the most diehard of a Trump supporter.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He became an alt-right chud.
