Wonder if this might inadvertently help emulators perform better for quirky games (unless Microslop just steals an existing emulator)

There was a 2020 leak of basically everything for the original Xbox. XEMU has made very fast progress after many years of stagnation with cxbx.

idk if closed source binaries would be of any use for Xenia/360.

Ooooh come on come on...if they're gona kill off the Xbox at least let me play my library on pc. Would be the best outcome of this crappy situation

Probably because of project helix

Couldn't be, a user friendly feature, in this economy?

Not really, it's a way to sell you 25 year old games for $50. They saw Nintendo's Virtual Console and wanted in on that same grift.

[–] markz@suppo.fi 3 points 1 month ago

Or even better, rent them

I assume it's part of Microsoft's XBOX transition to just plain old PCs with Windows.

Microsoft is getting out of the console wars to consolidate around desktop (and couch) computing. They're never going to beat steam and they're never going to make a trillion dollars fighting Sony another generation

You really trust these guys to do it?

If this is real, I'll have to find a copy of the first Saint's Row. Been wanting to play it again but it was a 360 exclusive. I mean, I probably could emulate it now anyway, but an official method would possibly be better.

Then again, if they vibe code the fucking thing...

but an official method would possibly be better.

This may not be true at all. Like some of these old emulators are essentially perfect, have not tried the xbox360 one, but ps2 emulation is perfect, for many titles it's better than playing on the console once you are past the setup.

Like imagine if the official emulator required you to attach a dvd-drive to your computer & even then how would the copy protection detection even work? Will they just give up on this now?

Xbox 360 emulation is nowhere near perfect, though. However it can run most games, whereas MS' emulator runs far fewer games but mostly without issues.

Please, remake the Steel Battalion controller too.

Metal Arms here I come 👀

I'm skeptical. Even if they did, it'll part of an online game marketplace rather than allowing users to play their old discs.

Still.. there's more than a handful of games that stayed on either system (especially 360) that I would love to revisit.
