Haven't watched the video but its not that shocking. FFXIV and nostalgia remakes are what drive the franchise. MMOs themselves are a middle aged's hobby. The more interesting thing is that last I checked FF's demographic is nearly half women.
Games
Tabletop, DnD, board games, and minecraft. Also Animal Crossing.

makes sense, FF is not a new series at all
Makes sense, the heyday of the franchise was FFVI-X which means a lot of late gen X and early millennials fans.
Makes sense. The last good new FF was what, 10?
12 isn't bad.
12 looked really cool when it came out but I never played it. The first open world FF
It's really weird because you can tell they were still in a very MMO design mindset and thought it would be really cool to try to make that stuff work as a single-player game. I think it worked, but it's not for everybody.
I remember looking at the gameplay and thinking they squeezed the absolute shit out of the ps2’s capabilities.
i know some 13 defenders
I got an hour into 13 before I uninstalled it because the mannerisms were so cringey. It's the only game I've ever played where I thought "Oh, I'm definitely getting my money back", and I played Brink.
Ye we exist. It’s not perfect by any means but there’s one design decision they made that lifts this game up significantly: Damage taken in battles does not persist after the battle. You always start battles with full health.
Such a simple thing but it gives the game a very different difficulty curve.
huh, i expected it to be a little lower, maybe 35-38
figured that would be the perfect age for being a kid when 7 came out
I think the original Playstation might be my favorite console because they pushed out so many of these things during that time. What a time for rpg's. Now it takes forever to make a game.
The answer to life the universe and everything.
Based on the people my partner interacts with on FFXIV this might even be an underestimate
Well yeah, you have 12 in '06 and then 13 in '09, both of which were meh, then it's back to back 7 year gaps before 15 and 16, both of which are also (afaik) considered mediocre. I can't imagine many people have become fans of the franchise in the last 20 years.
