Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

"I haven't heard anything about a ground invasion." — my MAGA coworker.

Starting to wonder if I can make a legitimate case to HR that I don't feel safe around MAGAts. Every day that passes I wonder if this is the one where he'll snap and bring a gun to the office.

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago

One of the ARG’s chief uses, as explained in its official guide, is, under certain situations, to carry out “the rapid insertion of sustainable combat forces—“boots on the ground"

Indeed, this is the primary reason we have the Marines. They land, establish a beachhead, and make it possible for a larger force to land safely. There's no reason to send in the Marines unless you also plan on sending in the army.

So which is it? By sending in the Marines are you committing us to a potentially decades long war in Iran that nobody asked for? Or are you wasting everybody's time and money and endangering lives on a pretend invasion you don't even plan to follow through on?

It's terrible leadership either way, but for the people involved, I hope it's the second one.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 2 points 6 hours ago

I expect this to go badly for America. As a citizen, I prefer failure over success.

Vietnam II, coming to a theater near you this spring.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 18 points 17 hours ago (4 children)

So here is a question

Why hasn't the army just kicked him out of his seat, commit a coup? Serious question

The guy is killing US soldiers for his benefit

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Honestly I think a military coup wouldn't be the worst idea. Generals are less likely to be owned by Israel or in the Epstein files and would have a better understanding of US national interests. They could also act to drain the swamp and clear out these corrupt gangsters.

Bring it on I say.

[–] Throbbing_banjo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 12 hours ago

You're talking about people who willingly joined the US military, including people who enlisted while Trump was president.

So I'll just let you go ahead and figure that one out on your own.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Because they're in the military. People with options don't join the military no matter what military recruiters tell you.

Why would I join the military for terrible pay, and get shot at, when I could do literally any other job, for more money, I don't get deployed to ill equipped war zones, I get to go home at the end of every day, and don't get shot?

You have to be a certain type of person to join the military, and that sort of person is not one prone to introspection.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 hours ago

The common clay of the new west. You know…

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 10 hours ago

Replacing a psychotic dictator with a military dictatorship isn't a step in the right direction.

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 9 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Fucking hell, how about coup instead military? Christ almighty

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 6 points 9 hours ago

How about a non-military coup while the military is otherwise occupied? I have yet to see how ICE performs when faced with anything other than clergy, frogs, nurses, and high schoolers, but I have seen a lot of them eject their clip, drop their guns, and cram themselves into Temu tactical vests with all the breathing room of a corset.

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 28 points 20 hours ago (3 children)

No ambiguity this time. They know they're going over there to die for oil.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 17 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

These days American manufacturing is so bad they couldn't even manufacture consent

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 10 hours ago

Consent is for democracies, which is evil woke liberal nonsense.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago

"Some of you will die making the world's first trillionaire"

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 11 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Not so sure though. Some are going to die to distract from the Trump-Epstein files. The split is not clear though. Let's say 50% for Trump-Epstein, 50% for oil.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

A non-zero amount think they are going to kick-start Judgment Day.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I'd be totally fine with it if they all got raptured so we didn't have to deal with them anymore.

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Now I'm curious: is there any story about the non raptured people on earth building a paradise on earth after the crazies left?

[–] Stormy@thelemmy.club 1 points 4 hours ago

Thats kind of a big part of it. Like Armageddon is the the end of their world. The end of the oppression of women and children, of the slave labor that benefits them. So yeah, once they get done killing people it's supposed to be better for the savages who don't ascend.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Oil companies gonna make bank cause of these guys. This is a sacrifice the oligarchs are willing to make to keep their fake ass scam economy spinning.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 2 points 5 hours ago

Yep.

“When this regime goes down, we are going to have a new Middle East, and we are going to make a tonne of money.” - U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.

I like how this news comes out right after futures markets closed for the weekend. Im sure the right people got their positions in place before the bell.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 24 points 22 hours ago

The whole week leading up to the war I knew with full certainty that nothing would happen until market close on Friday.

It's been trumps MO for a decade, you can set your watch to it.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 30 points 22 hours ago (9 children)

Well that sounds like a really shitty way to die.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 12 points 21 hours ago

Jeffrey thanks you for your service, though.

This is levels of stupid that I can not comprehend.

[–] Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works 26 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (2 children)

The real stupid are the officers and grunts following these orders. Trump just spouts bullshit all the time but he's aware enough to not actually put himself in physical danger. But these bots are about to go over there and die for a charlatan child rapist instead of stopping and using their brain.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 8 points 20 hours ago

This is why Jesus said it's a foolish and doomed idea to swear oaths and pledge allegiances.

First move the "christian nation" clan makes?

"Yeah we're making everyone pledge to an idol now, and they have to do whatever the one waving it says, lol. Lmao, even."

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 11 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Their entire instinct has been honed meticulously to obey orders and you think they'll somehow come to a sudden communal realization that they are doing the bidding of an evil conman and stop in their tracks?

They will not hesitate firing on US civilians either, if you were under that impression.

[–] Brummbaer@pawb.social 5 points 12 hours ago

Exactly, people don't understand that an Army is formed by removing internal resistance to orders.

So basically you can point the military at to something to kill and they will do it.

No i dont think that, hence my comment lol

[–] circuscritic@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That might be enough troops to take Kharg Island, but I'm no military planner.

All I do know is that 2,200 marines is not a ground invasion force for mainland Iran.

Edit: corrected marine count

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Umm ya it is. Its the perfect amount.

They all dead or captured and paraded around worse than the US embassy hostage crisis in the 70s. Iran will be very happy.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 4 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

If they’re following these orders, it would be no less than they deserve.

A pre-emptive “womp womp” for every cowardly US soldier that goes along with this and gets domed.

Be prepared for heroic social media content!

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 18 points 22 hours ago (3 children)

LMAO! I actually have a story from Iraq that goes with this. In the last few days before we left, we had a platoon cookout, and our NBC specialist did this with a chunk of ice cubes that froze together in the shape of a dick. But instead of having his head positioned like this, he tilted his head back. Well his grip on the ice slipped and he dropped it down till it got lodged in the back of his throat. The medics took one look and they're all shoulders "keep calm, breath slow and let the ice dick melt" those are words I will remember till I take my last breath.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago

Your NBC Specialist learned a lot about themselves that vay!

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 9 points 22 hours ago

That's fucking great! XD

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 16 hours ago
