We really dont talk enough about how Trump and the modern right was made possible by 90s politicians. Those dumbass "new democrats" who basically decided to be Reagan Lite and the Republicans who happily turned the wheel even further right in response.

Financial obesity is an existential threat to any society that tolerates it, and needs to cease being celebrated, rewarded, and positioned as an aspirational goal.

Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but billionaires should be euthanised through taxation.

"Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but billionaires should be euthanised."

Ah man, the end of that quote must've gotten cut off by a guillotine or something

Trump is just the symptom, he is not the disease.

When he leaves office (by hook or by crook) the disease will remain; they have purchased replacements already.

[–] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 12 points 18 hours ago

Like Squid Game -- the billionaires have already chosen a replacement and continuing the operations.

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

He is absolutely a disease, he just isn't the only one

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 11 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

So refreshing to see another person who realizes this didn't happen overnight and has been an incremental and bipartisan project.

Unfortunately, the US education system teaches that everything is compartmentalized and not interconnected to other actions by government. A cut here, a clip there, before we know it, the entire tree has been taken down.

That’s a long list of companies I’m not going to fuck with anymore. They can produce whatever they want, doesn’t mean we have to consume it.

[–] cobysev@lemmy.world 10 points 16 hours ago

Arr 🏴‍☠️

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 13 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

We are absolutely NOT obligated to consume ANY of that corporatist shit.

Best thing I did was get rid of my TV when I cut the cable back in 1999.

My current TV is a 50" budget "special needs" 4k Hisense I use for gaming. That's it.

It won't be hard to avoid. Most of it is going to be lame propaganda that you wouldn't want to watch anyway.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

They're also going to go full-on into AI slop, which you likewise won't want to watch.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago

Consuming it, but not paying them anything for it, is also an option, but I certainly respect avoiding it altogether out of principle.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

I already don't watch any of them, but now I can have a chip on my shoulder about it. Win/win.

Only one can hope a Trump descendant will realize how messed up their family has been to this generation and do the right thing by ridding the fortune.

Pretty remarkable that they control that much and still can't meaningfully control culture.

[–] De_Narm@lemmy.world 12 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Have you not noticed the global rise of fascism fueled by billionaire owned media companies controlling the narrative?

Over here in Europe, it's extremely obvious. Everything a left-wing party does is scrutinized, every new right-wing scandal is barely worth mentioning.

Lemmy is just a left-wing bubble. Lots of people watch TV and simply believe mist thing they see.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world -1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

And which of the listed companies did that come from?

None of them. It came from fox news and right wing YouTube. And it's a minority that's shrinking and increasingly isolated from everyone else, who are all growing more and more disdainful of the right.

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

He openly stated he is in Europe. We have no Fox News here and YouTube is barely used by the right wing.

I am so tired of American Lemmy users like you who cannot think outside of their crumbling nation.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 0 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

Murdoch owned media, then. Pardon me for focusing on America in the comments of a post by an American senator about an American billionaire family buying up mostly American media networks and largely failing to influence wider American culture with them.

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

As I already pointed out, imagining you would try this comeback, you answered a specific comment, USian.

And Murdoch owns none of the state-run or private channels that are the main source of news in all the major EU economies at the very least.

Don't they?

"You don't need 100% of the people to love you. You need 10%, fuckin' pissed. You have followers. I have soldiers."

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 14 hours ago

I'm more glad for ditching cable than ever.

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

Arrr mateys, it be smooth sailing on these here high seas.

[–] Jomega@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon?!

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

Just in time for cable to become completely irrelevant.

[–] Numinous_Ylem@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Bust that shit up. I can't believe we just let this sort of monopoly happen. Further proof that both parties are corporate-owned and always have been.

[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Democrats always lay the foundations for Republicans to further subjugate the working class

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 1 points 18 hours ago

Damn, I tried to like Pluto, they have a lot of great movies, but I can't support that.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world -1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Oh no, not Cartoon Network -- where will I get my news?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works -1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

What do they have to do with news?

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

That's me, joking, because I didn't think it needed an /s?

After all, they're controlling the news media and running propaganda to push us right. That said. I know hitting kids media is its own brand of evil, though we've yet to see what that looks like or if it'll even happen on those cartoon channels.

[–] acchariya@lemmy.world 0 points 18 hours ago

Cool, I've just stopped watching all of these because they mostly suck, seems to be an easy boycott
