Don't be too rough with each other! We're here to appreciate, and sometimes lightly rib, Tolkien's fantastic creation, and all of its derivative works. Arguments happen, but remember, in the words of Tolkien, that food and cheer and good song are what make a merrier world!

"I'm fed up with Gondor. Let's just let Sauron have Middle Earth, that'll teach them a lesson!"*
*This is not an attempt a politically coherent statement, just me, a socialist, making a shitty joke.
Once the Free People of Middle Earth see how terrible Sauron is firsthand, they'll HAVE to come crawling back to the ol' Mayor of Laketown!
confused social-liberal noises
Liberal as a contrast to leftist usually means types who are onboard with "business-friendly" policies but not outright conservatives. It's common for liberal parties of that sort to think they can "ride out" waves of fascist populism by making token concessions and waiting for the 'fad' to fade.
The issue is that usually a surge in fascism is because of an underlying problem, whether economic, cultural, or political, so what they really are doing is giving fascism more power for their own eventual destruction.
"Let's just destroy just half the Free People of Middle Earth, I'm sure Sauron will be satisfied with that!"
Yes thats exactly what happened when 6 million protest voters got Donald Trump elected a second time.
Oh wait. Hang on. That means the non-liberal leftists chose to keep the fascism, no?
Project much?
I think he's saying that if we're given anything other than a right wing option we would take it
That would be a great alternative to the right wing option if there were only two options, really wish we could all agree on that.
What are you talking about, Jesse?
The world is much broader than the USA, please remember. Liberals have a long history of insufficient response to fascism, and while you can claim it's because liberals are more often in the 'driver's seat', so to speak, and able to be criticized, that doesn't blunt the core critique that compromise with fascism is a fool's game, and one that liberal parties engage in far too often.
Another example, then.
The "leftists" and liberals, and to clarify I don't believe nonliberal leftists are actually left because I think respect for individual autonomy and civil rights are a nonnegotiable progressive stance, but in the context of this discussion we're referring to self identified leftists, split in Germany's Wehrmacht Republic leading to a failure to form government for three elections until the Nazis seized power on the fourth.
The rise of a divide in the left is always heralding an age of fascism, because of purity politics and foreign psyops.

... okay, but that split occurred in no small part because the liberal party, Zentrum, preferred to negotiate with the conservatives and literal Nazis over supporting the Social Democrats.
Liberals are far from always always at fault. But it's a definite tendency of the liberal worldview, oriented largely towards procedure and compromise, to end up taking the wrong fucking tack towards fascists, who care for neither.

And when the divide is predicated on the 'moderate' rather than the radical wing?

Fuck, man, it's 2026. Considering we're both Americans and talking in a very American context, if we can't voice our objections to the overall game plan of liberals now, when can we voice it? Saying "Holy fuck liberals, you need to snort some fucking wig powder and get that 1776 energy back" is hardly 'splitting the party' two years out from the next presidential; it's voicing serious fucking concern over liberals falling into the same trap as other liberal parties in the past - including the Dems, who opted to play softball through both Obama's terms (which I don't blame Obama specifically for - God knows he had a very narrow line to walk as the first Black president) and Hillary's campaign and Biden's term and the Harris campaign.
Liberals offering compromise to the "Very ~~Economically Anxious~~ Concerned Right-Wing" and getting screwed by it is a classic Lucy-and-the-football situation. Most of us here don't hate Charlie Brown. We just want him to stop fucking falling for it, especially since when we all fucking pay for his gullibility, and politely pointing it out has done jack squat.
As any number of political comedians will tell you, mockery is more powerful than etiquette.
It was the Democrat's strategy that resulted in low voter turnout. The votes were up for grabs, they ran away from them. It's not like the campaign was unaware of what messaging and policies were unpopular. They chose to ignore it. They chose to run to the right on policy and messaging. If they gave a shit about being an opposition to fascism, about actually winning, they would have heeded all the warning signs and run a different campaign. Instead they prioritized the interest of their capital donors, and gave a fuck you to their constituents that they are supposed to represent.

The Democratic Party is the one compromising with fascism. As Liberals have done historically and continue to do so.
It was the GOP's strategy, billionaires strategy, Russia's and China's strategy that lead to lower turnout.
And you're acting as a part of that strategy, the power to keep fascists in power.
The DNC campaigned on taxing the rich, healthcare for all, removing money from politics. The problem wasn't policy, it was optics.
I swear you are allergic to reading. How many of those links have you actually looked at?
It was both a messaging issue and a policy issue. Ignoring the bad foreign policy of the campaign and also the lack of messaging on the popular policies, or how Harris shyed away from popular policy messaging, doesn't change the reality that her campaign was a failure. If the failures aren't actually addressed, nothing will change.
