Got back from the movies about an hour ago. I liked it (and my kids loved it).

7/10. Not among the Pixar greats, but it's worth a watch.

::: Moderate spoiler And seeing an airborne assault by a shark carried by seagulls against a moving car deserves bonus points in my book. 8/10. :::

Tap for spoilerIn the German version the shark is called Hai-Di (which basically translates to sharky, but its also a common German name (Heidi) and it's voiced by Heidi Klum

Same name in Norwegian. No idea who voiced it.

Do animated animal films ever bomb? They kinda feel like a cheat code.

Animated films are a 2-hour window for parents to not have to deal with their children.

Films are also often how kids form ideas about how the world works.

Parents can talk about how the world works, but films show them how it works (or teaches them lies if you're not careful)

Think of the impact films like Star Trek, Jurassic Park, 101 Dalmations, and Surf Ninjas have had on our society.

And don't even get me started on Shrek... Akch! What a load of flush [Somebody!]

That’s why my kids are only allowed to watch Paul Verhoeven films.

Didn't that last Disney original bomb?

[–] Ilandar@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Zootopia 2? It made $1.8+ billion.

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 3 days ago

Zootopia 2 is not a Disney original... It's a sequel?

I meant Elio. Budget was 150-200 million, vox office 154 million.

[–] Ilandar@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is that an animal film...?

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't even know, there was very little marketing. I think it's aliens

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

They're mermaids, IIRC. So half alien half animal? 🤷‍♂️

Edit: Wrong movie... I hadn't even heard of Elio, apparently.
