Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Hegseth, 45, a former Fox News TV host who now commands the world’s most powerful military

I hate this sentence so godamn much.

[–] redsand@infosec.pub 14 points 2 days ago

But he promised his mom he would stop drinking!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, reading about Sean Duffy's resume as Real World personality is nearly as bad, given he's Secretary of Transportation and spent my fucking money on.... lecturing Americans about how they dress when they travel.

I hate this administration so very much. At least Duffy isn't starting wars of choice and hasn't invaded America states and cities like Noem has.

But it's almost like they are designed to infuriate normal people.

It's like if all the school bullies and hanger-ons suddenly got power.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Yeah, I remember some knob during college - the typical douchebro that so obviously peaked in high school; I'm not sure if he actually finished his degree (I think it was in criminal justice?). Anyway, he was no longer in school, but still attending some parties because he was friend of a friend of a friend. I think he might have been in some kind of training to be a cop. My friends were throwing a party, and many people had hooked up/wandered off with their SO, etc...

I was not there but everyone that was relayed how this guy at about 1am or so was saying how he'd go out to his car and get his handcuffs and arrest some people that he took issue with. He was threatening people with arrest over some drunken disagreement at a party. Needless to say, this dude and the people still affiliating with him were cut out of future party invites.

Pete Hegseth very much has that guy's energy, only way more power given to him. I'm also reminded a bit of Alex's droogs that go into the police force in A Clockwork Orange.

Are you saying it was a bad idea to give this much power and responsibility to a drunk weekend host from Faux "News"?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_North?wprov=sfla1

It was just about time for Fox News to send the military a zionist patsy in exchange.

[–] Atomic@sh.itjust.works 37 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I knew he was incompetent and bad. But god damn, the more you read the worse it gets, you think: how much worse could it get? And then the article gently tells you: oh we're not done...

But it also highlights the problem is far bigger than just Trump. As their Congress swore him in, after a 50-50 vote that was resolved by the VP.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

I have said this again and again. its not just trump its the whole republican party at this point. we see it with congress and their court appointments backing up the bulltrump. anyone with actual conservative convictions has to get with others of their ilk and go form a new party as this one is cooked. its lost any legitamcy its every had and needs to go the way of the wigs. they have taken down the libertarians with them to. They could try to go there but it will not be able to last very long if at all.

Pete is actually the only man on Earth whose BAC and IQ are basically the same number.

[–] grimpy@lemmy.myserv.one 3 points 2 days ago

“What does BAC stand for? Meaning: blood alcohol concentration” —Merriam Webster

A six pack? Just a six pack?? That’s some limp wristed beta talk right there. Real men drink Everclear, mixed with rubbing alcohol. No ice. Only betas need their drinks refreshing and cold.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The US's very own Wilhelm Keitel war criminal, but Keitel was at least a general.

Peter knows he's a fall guy for his lord and master when the war crimes court starts up, right?

"I didn't know what all Pete was doing- I never told him to do that."

[–] BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"Nah, nothing is going to happen to ME" or something

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"My shield of strong liquor and white supremacist tattoos will protect me."

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I dearly hope he'll be tried as the war criminal he is. Like Goebbels and shit

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Goebbels and his wife chose to poison themselves after murdering their six children a couple days after Hitler blew his own brains out.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago

A la Kristi Noem.

[–] definitely_AI@feddit.online 1 points 2 days ago

Ernst Röhm type motherfucker.

[–] definitely_AI@feddit.online 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No shit, the guy with literal white power prison gang tattoos over his body is a dangerous psychopath?? Holy shit, who could have seen it coming?!

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

...and he invited a hard core Christian Nationalist nutter, Doug Wilson, for a Pentagon Prayer session paid for by US taxpayers.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

He's like a teenager talking smack on call of duty.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

No fucking joke I said to my friend this morning:

🙄 he's such a fucking tool

The war monger language and all of his charisma is the confidence of a child playing call of duty on Xbox live.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 12 points 2 days ago

This is a dumb dude who is drunk on the greatest power ever granted an individual in the history of this species. He kills every day. Hundreds, if not thousands of people. He has to be neutralized. How long is this going to keep going ?

These scum are caricature movie villains. Perfectly happy to sit in safety acting like badasses while dealing out suffering and death for others.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I think they're using the term "person" a little too lightly here.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This headline formula "[emotional state] as [thing happening]" strikes me as stupider every time I see it. Use a fucking verb.
