Except for ARA General Belgrano, except for ROKS Cheonan, except for...

Edit: oh, they mean first one done by the US.

Hoping some other "first since WW2" stuff happens to american destroyers. Carriers if I'm really lucky

I'd be more interested in a particular bunker event involving a racist head of state.

Given Iran's inability to hit warships, Iran's entire navy now sunk, and the vast majority of their missile launchers destroyed; getting a hit on an American carrier in the middle of a carrier taskforce is almost nill.

Pretty bold claims, let's see how they true they end up being.

I don't disagree about the carrier of course, it would basically be a miracle for them to pull it off. But a DDG is not out of the question.

Yeah, if we start sending destroyer escorts though the Straight of Hormuz, decent chance one catches an Iranian missile eventually.

Quiet death.

Yeah that massive explosion then the screams of people burning alive or drowning I'm sure weren't quiet.

even with the ukraine stuff or specifically by a submarine?

[–] RamRabbit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

By a US submarine specifically; first since WWII.

Oh, the Straits of Hormuz are closed, are they? We'll see about that.

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The threat of missiles, drones and rockets from the mainland are keeping the straits closed, not the Iranian navy.

[–] RamRabbit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It was both. Iran had a whole slew of fast attack boats specifically for attacking ships in the straight. They also had a number of larger warships.

All of that is gone, leaving only the ground-based stuff, which has been heavily attrited.
