Same. It actually took me a second to get the joke, then I realized I was the joke

[–] essell@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Me too. I was looking around for the funny. It was me.

Guilty. I used the sum symbol for a fancy "E" riffling through my phone keyboards. I know there is a better ascii character.

edited later: corrected my intended font\unicode.

edit2: I highly recommend a f-droid app called UnicodePad for anyone in need of a proper character map application.

[–] rwrwefwef@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's not an E; it's a Sigma standing in for summation.

I fixed it. Thanks!

I was initially like, "really, under 2? Cheapass county can't even cover kids under 10?"

My foolishness knows no bounds

it's just an error in font, I took a minute to find the real meaning of this ad 😬

In print, yes, in hand written maths I don't mind the line

Until there's a lowercase L, or you're taking the absolute value of something ...

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

I don't really handwrite anything these days, but my brother always taught me to put a little upturned curve at the bottom of letters to differentiate them from similar-looking numbers.

[–] moistclump@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Is this loss?

I think in order to see a major unified system font update, we are going to need two huge corporations battle each other in court.

Plus a class action lawsuit by guys named AL

🚶‍♂️

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 21 points 1 month ago

Took me a good while to read it as 11 so it is pretty confusing tbf

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 18 points 1 month ago

At first I tough that that was a big ass kid for being under 2yo.

[–] qwestjest78@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

That kid is clearly not under 2 though. Should be that all kids ride free

[–] X@piefed.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The fine print:

*Picture is for illustrative purposes only, and is not an accurate depiction of children under II years of age. Please ensure that your child(ren) meet(s) the eligibility requirements as shown. This transit system shall not be liable for the outcome of any child 11 years of age who use it.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It is too, accurate for kids under eleven.

[–] huquad@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago

Clearly they mean under 3

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yep I couldn't understand why they chose to use Roman notation. To be honest though 11 is a weird age cut off to have picked.

[–] Chrobin@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They probably decided on 10 or below, but it didn't sound as catchy in the marketing

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

people kept thinking it was binary for 2 during audience testing

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 2 points 1 month ago

Binary for three. Two would be 1 0 which would then get confused with 10 which would actually take us full circle.

[–] redbeardgecko@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

So did one to be honest

[–] derry@midwest.social 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Kids under or travel free

<> I i L l

Had to copy the character and paste i elsewhere to see that it was not two letters.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

No, but seriously. What the fuck?

[–] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Kids under 2' is a whole different type of measurement

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

It’s an homophonic alliteration in binary.

Kids under three ride free.

[–] swiftywizard@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 month ago

I really do not understand, now is that supposed to mean II or XI?

[–] espentan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Let's Do London.. hmm..

[–] Klear@quokk.au -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Kids under the tracks travel free.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

But not far.
