My FPV goggles have no internal battery, they need to be run off a 2s-8s LiPo or 5v from a USB port. This lets me use a reasonably safe power supply instead of strapping a raw lipo to my body.

Panties droppin' everywhere

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 27 points 5 days ago

We've got belt clips for those too!

This is wildly more effective than a condom at STI and pregnancy prevention

Virginity successfully protected.

When I'm wearing goggles, a talking RG radio on a neck strap and flying a 20gram drone through my yard, it was never in danger xD https://imgur.com/gallery/i-miss-summer-3jgxHNL#QuFy3Aw

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I'm relieved to hear that.

Are you in a movie theater?

Is that flourescent carpet :o So cool!

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And it is indeed flourescent for people too lazy to click on the link

FreeCAD, not the easiest but I like it.

[–] einlander@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I use it too. I'm now learning to cope with how it doesn't have a tool for external threads

As @nik282000@lemmy.ca mentioned, a helix is one way, but if you want to make it easy, just go to the Addon Manager and install the Fasteners Workbench.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 days ago

I just use the helix pad and a triangle.

Beautiful in its simplicity.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I like Unix-y things, do one job well.

Have you considered sharing the design on Thingiverse or some other 3d model sharing site? Apologies if you do not prefer to give your work out for free.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

I post most of the stuff I make to Thingiverse, this one was so niche I didn't think any one would want it.

Next iteration: flame-activated, spring-powered emergency eject system. Thinking of that Chinese EV that responds to thermal runaway by trying to take out bystanders with burning batteries. No witnesses, no embarrassing news story.

Mabe for my 4s drone, one good crash can turn it into Johnny Storm.

The fastest charge in the West.

A pocket protector for the modern age.

[–] Trilogy3452@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What material did you print it with?

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

PETG, because it'll likely get some direct sunlight. I would have used ABS but my venting window is snowed in.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Just keep in mind PETG isn't strictly UV resistant. A later reprint with ASA would be better.

[–] Trilogy3452@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Do people paint over it to make it UV resistant?

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I was thinking of softening but that's a good point. Ill probably do it in ABS if it fails in PETG.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 days ago

ABS is even less UV resistant. 😅

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This actually would be kind of neat as a backpack atrachment.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Would make more sense to put it where the mp3 player goes, and just route the charging cable out the headphones hole

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 days ago

Valid, but many backpacks don't have those dedicated headphone holes. I was thinking of something that could clip to the shoulder straps (or I guess this existing design could be adapted for MOLLE-style rigging as well with simple measurement).

[–] vonProteus@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Would you mind posting it somewhere?

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

Bam: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7308092

Keep in mind that it is a not a tight fit by design, if you jog or run it will probably fall out.

For some reason, seeing a holster for something so beefy reminded me of this scene in the movie hook.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

It's damned near that beefy. I should holster all the things!
