Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Trump won't pay a cent. The taxpayer will have to fork it over.

Again. The US citizenship paid the first time. Should be comical watching them have to pay it a second time which is almost a guarantee with Trump and admin in tow.

Heck they’re probably already working out how to stiff them with the bill.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Yeah, these were very much the largest tax increase in living memory.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 3 days ago

Twice. All these corpos are wanting to pocket the money that they passed to you in price hikes.

Except Cards Against Humanity. They're refunding back 100% of whatever tarrif shit that's returned to them.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

All I heard is that I’m getting a second check now.

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

And not a single red penny will make its way back to consumers

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 20 points 3 days ago

Said this earlier, but the tariffs should be returned to the consumer as a tax credit for a certain amount. Will it give everyone the exact amount they paid? No. But at least it returns the money to the people and not to the corporations who will just keep it. It’s about as fair of a way as you can get without ending up in accounting hell.

Impale

Allegedly, Sascha Riley already tried that.

Incontinent...

[–] BananaIsABerry@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

This could've all been avoided if they just taxed business more...

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Wait if CostCo wins means they now must pay all the members correct? Because we all fucking know they didn't pay that tax the customers did.

[–] KnitWit@lemmy.world 28 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Out of all the corporations, Costco is probably the only one I’d have any faith in making it right for their customers.

[–] Seaguy05@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Cards against humanity has promised to give money back to customers

[–] Seaguy05@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Thank you for posting that link. I must have missed it.

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Yeah. "Fuck corporate" is an absolutely fantastic life philosophy, but Costco is the LEAST guilty of any of them.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Costco isn't going give money back. They could easily, you have to scan your membership card before check out. But they aren't, but nice if they did.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

I laughed when I read this.

Hope you're right, I guess...but yikes. Costco doesn't give a shit about their consumers.

[–] Penguin_1024@piefed.zip 6 points 3 days ago

Well, they could go back through the receipts they have saved, but that would require someone to do actual work to figure out how much each customer is owed. It would be terrible to pay an employee to do that, when the CEO could just pocket the money.

Finally the excuse the courts needed to postpone illegal detention cases even further. If the detainees die in their concentration camps the administration won again.

But hey, maybe I'll get $12 back through some class action bullshit.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

They should make it so that people have to show up for these things rather than just send a lawyer... And make it so they have to physically receive the summons.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

But Trump already gave tax cuts to corporations and was planning on using tariff revenue to make up the difference.
