All of those dots on Greenland explains what 's going on right now

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

Better invade all these places to be safe

[–] dsilverz@calckey.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus @StopTech@lemmy.today

As a Brazilian, I wasn't aware of how many cities and towns named "Iran" we had, especially throughout the state of Amazonas (guess what is located in Amazonas that USA wants to snatch so badly?). Gonna visit Iran someday, but it seems like a long travel. At least the most geographically close Iran from where I live would be "Irã, Paraná". 😅

Another map without New Zealand!

[–] StopTech@lemmy.today 28 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

But does it have Old Zealand?

[–] cosmictrickster@lemmy.world 50 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

Technically, yes. Province in Netherlands, actual name Zeeland.

[–] StopTech@lemmy.today 12 points 3 weeks ago
[–] YaDownWitCPP@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Looks like the sequel became a much bigger hit.

[–] cosmictrickster@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

Not according to some mapmakers apparently. 😢

[–] Hapankaali@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

New Zealand certainly has the nicer mountains.

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I thought Zeeland was part of Denmark.

I need to know the source of this because this has to be fake or trolls because all of those in the western hemisphere or in the ocean are just silly and can't be for real

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

those in the western hemisphere or in the ocean are just silly

Correct

and can't be for real

Likely incorrect. You'd be shocked at how profoundly stupid and/or misinformed some people are in a country that routinely robs its public education system to pay churches and private corporations..

Do you honestly think those data points in the Atlantic are genuine and not trolling?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

if it was a fox news poll i'd pick 1600 pennsylvania avenue in DC specifically.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

This is someone just hitting an iPad leaving a grocery store to move on with their life

Thought process:

"Iran? Like a marathon? That could be anywhere"

[–] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

🎵 And Iran, Iran so far away-ay-ay 🎵

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

marathon is in greece. i'm pretty sweaty. shower's over there. must be in america

[–] protist@mander.xyz 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Looks like they got Iraan, TX correct

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Now that‘s an explanation! They never heard of Iran as a country and thought it was a random-ass city. And since they didn’t know where it was, they guessed the center of the US!

[–] protist@mander.xyz 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Iraan, TX is a real place, though it's pronounced "Ira-Ann."

Iraan is the second largest town in the second largest county in the second largest state in the United States, which is the second largest country in North America.

"We're Number 2!"

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

every place is known for something. what does ira-ann make? like, big ball of twine? bacon factory? help me out. wastewater treatment? they are number two.

Are these schoolchildren? Adults? People in retirement homes? All ages?

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

This has to be a joke right? Some dots are in the ocean

[–] axexrx@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Buster: ovbiously, the blue part here is land.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd love to think that, but this is America, where basic geography might as well be Egyptian hieroglyphics to most people.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

10th grade history we didn't do history, we did maps and had to memorize all the countries. if we sang the song (without mumbling) we got bonus points.

[–] Loreshield@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe they're thinking the current Iranian state succeeded Atlantis and they're placing the latter in the Atlantic instead of the Mediterranean, as Dr. Jones correctly did after reading the Hermocrates? ¯\(°_o)/¯

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Honestly, Iran sounds more pleasant.

No, Jeremy. This is the chart that Ann sneezed on with a mouthful of cheerios.

The actual distribution plot is still in the printer. Go get it.

[–] Una@europe.pub 3 points 3 weeks ago

I think Iran is its own planet somewhere in andromeda galaxy.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

The points chosen so far off from Iran just prove the point in a perverse way. The people are stupid, uneducated, or just willfully being assholes by choosing the wrong places. Just go ahead and lump them together. One set is damaging because of ignorance, the rest due to malice. Pretty much sums up trump and his followers.

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

How many data points you think that is something like 5,177? HAY chatGPT HOW MANY NUKES DOSE AMERICA HAVE?

...

What a wonderful coincidence.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Americans are extremely dumb so this does not surprise me at all.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

hey! we may be americans, and we may be extreme, but, uh, what was the third thing you said?

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Quite a few up in Greenland. Maybe this explains Trump's confusion about that.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Most of them were fairly close.

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Many of them were fairly close, but with 23% in the borders I wouldn't judge that most were, if I look where I think half the dots are it's starting to get quite far into Europe, Africa, India or China. Which imo should all be fairly easy to rule out, but shrug

That there is (n+1) people who in identifying a desert, Farsi speaking, country chose the ORKNEY ISLANDS...smh

[–] alienghic@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

I tested my US middle school student who, when forced to pick a country on this wikipedia blank world map, https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cf/A_large_blank_world_map_with_oceans_marked_in_blue.PNG picked Ireland.

I did get it right, though uh thank you to reporting from ukraine for your news tied to map animations.
