My chronically untidy brain cannot come to terms with the fact that in order to maintain a clean house, the items used for daily cleaning must also be regularly cleaned. Like what the very fuck

They taught us that in the military (yes, i went to the military for a few months because it's compulsory in my country):

When you come home from a field trip, all your equipment is gonna be really dirty. So you gotta clean your equipment first, only then yourself.

The lesson i took from it is that we are the tools to clean stuff. And we must be cleaned as well, but only after we've cleaned other stuff, otherwise it would be pointless.

You clean yourself with the shower. You clean the shower with a rag. Now you enter a terminal state of cleaning:

  • You clean the rag with a washing machine
  • You clean the washing machine with the rag
  • You clean the rag with a washing machine
  • You clean the washing machine with the rag
  • You clean the rag with a washing machine
  • You clean the washing machine with the rag
  • ...

The thing is dirty so I clean it with another thing, but if the cleaning thing is dirty then the dirty thing won’t get clean, so have to use a clean cleaner to clean the dirt off the dirty thing. Now the dirty thing is clean and the cleaner is dirty so the dirty cleaner must be cleaned before cleaning more dirty things so I must clean the cleaner with a clean thing because if the cleaner cleaner is dirty then the dirty cleaner won’t get clean but I don’t have any clean cleaner cleaners they’re all dirty from cleaning so I’ll have to clean a dirty cleaner cleaners to cleaner I used to clean the dirty dirt in clean the clean dirt dirty clean the not dirt cleanly thing is clean the dirty and then the do the dirt clen thing is dir th cla Im is thing dit cleany dirt my is no canly di c t al t cl t c

Are... are you okay?

The fact that there are cleaning item cleaning items implies the existence of cleaning item cleaning item cleaning items, which in turn implies...

Rinse the shower right before you get out (detachable shower head works well for this) and it'll cut down how often you need to clean the shower by a lot. It's typically the soap residue that causes showers to get gross so rinsing minimizes that quite a bit.

but then i can't leave gross messages on the walls for my spouse made out of hair.

So I recently found out the EcoLab shower cleaner you can get at Home Depot really is scrub free. Spray foam > wait 60s > rinse off. It says you don’t need to wipe it off, but I still use a sponge just in case.

Stuff really works. Changed my life.

The foaming spray really helps to keep it looking clean between deep cleans but yeah it’s pretty bullshit.

Is there a tier list for spinning brush drill attachments or do I just go with the Ryobi and call it good e'nuff?

[–] BarrelAgedBoredom@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago

They'll do the trick. Get the stiff ones though

Yes indeed. And you use a towel only when you've just washed yourself. So it never gets dirty.

I hate cleaning my shower so much, I bought a squeegee so after I'm done, I can wipe all the water off the walls. Soap scum doesn't build up anymore and I get to clean it much less than I did before.

Downside? I gotta wipe down the entire shower after every shower. It sucked for the first few weeks, but now it's a habit.

Running the bathroom fan after you shower/keeping the bathroom door open regularly is goated if you're like me and hate constantly cleaning.

[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 4 points 4 days ago

I always have the door open and it still gets gross :(

If you're curious, that's usually the same bacteria that causes UTIs.

And also used as a bioweapon simulant over San Fransisco, detailed in that Wikipedia link. Things were wild in the 50s.

If you have mould in silicone sealant try putting bleach on it overnight.

I built a new shower a year ago. I've cleaned the glass wall once. I've never washed the tile floor. The grout is a little discoloured, but it's certainly not gross. It gets used once a day by one person and dries thoroughly between uses - especially in winter when the air is so dry inside.

I use bleach... On every suitable surface.
