Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

these three wonderful, religiously qualified, and amazing men

the large diaspora of beautiful Jewish families

does not like my wonderful president

Went to the Trump Academy of Elocution for the Lowest Common Denominator, I see.

What an utter fucking slob. Kick him out.

The MAGA coalition is so bizarre. Half of them are Zionists who believe it is ontologically impossible for a Jew to do anything wrong, and the other half don’t believe the Holocaust happened but think it should have.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 3 points 1 day ago

Zionism is comprised of two pillars: 1. We will kill arabs. 2. We will move jews out of your country.

The only difference from zionism and the original nazi plan for the jewish question is that Israel is not in Madagascar...

[–] Ooops@feddit.org 6 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

He knows exactly how to behave.

Nothing the MAGA regime does (and this is also true for all the MAGA-loving 'conservatives' in Europe) is the result of incompetence or lack of knowledge. They are not stupid, they are evil. Nobody actually knows where incompetence ends and active performance art starts. And we shouldn't care to find out either because it does not matter. Every loud obnoxious idiot is in their respective position exactly because they are supposed to be there. To divert and to polarize. And so morons have some figure to rally around that is seemingly just like them.

Legitimate question, hypothetically, can't someone just defenestrate the ambassador and pin it on the Russians? The yanks do it and no one bats an eye. It may even help with war in Ukraine. Worst case scenario, the yanks find out and the Belgians reply by quoting Trump's whitewashing of MBS' butchering proclivities. "These things happen"

Expel the child. He shouldn’t traveling without adult supervision.

We have so many anti-competent Trumpers in American government, it's easy to forget that American diplomacy is run by anti-competent Trumpers, too.

Fuck the Belgian law though. Child mutilation for ritualistic purposes.

β€œBelgian law permits ritual circumcisions if they are performed by a qualified doctor under strict health and safety standards.”

[–] EverXIII@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

Circumcisions for what purpose? Glad to be an atheist...

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 1 points 23 hours ago

you mean like a briss ?

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world -2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I'm against circumcision too, but it's not against the law. Many people believe it is healthier for the child, and in some cases they are right, but by and large it should be the parents and doctors decision, not a lawmakers. I don't agree with religious exemption, but the law sure does.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 8 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It should be the decision of the person whose foreskin is in question. If they're a minor, should only be allowed if there is medical need. If they're an adult and aren't being coerced into it, then so be it, it's their body. But this shit should not be happening to minors for "ritual" purposes

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world -2 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

Babies can't ask though? I agree with you in principal, but the world is the way it is. Our medical professionals should not be bombarded with "opinions" and they should give clinical care as needed. Ask someone who got circumcized as an adult how it felt? It's not much fun. Religion is a voting block with power and they ua e forced mandates. That's where you need to focus your battle, not getting mad at me online. I don't have any say on the matter, only an opinion.

So, do it to babies, then? Wtf?

[–] RalfWausE@feddit.org 2 points 10 hours ago

If the world is shit we need to make it better. If "bombarding medical professionals with opinions" stops them in being accomplices in the mutilatiion of children it makes the world better.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 2 points 15 hours ago

I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at religion getting a free pass to mutilate children who can't consent to be mutilated.
