I'd take a lump of wet dogshit over Gavin New some or another neo-liberal, so I hope this poll isn't a fluke.

Assuming we even have a democracy for this poll to matter in any way.

No spoon or bowl needed.

The DNC is a private organization and can pick who they will to be the candidate. They can go against the will of the voters. Which the courts agree with them on this.

That exactly the argument they used in 2016 in Nevada to justify giving Hillary the win in that state even though the majority wanted Bernie.

They have picked Gavin the guy who just declared Roland Ragen day in California.

AOC be better as a Senator anyway and should primary useless Chuck.

I strongly detest this defeatism sentiment.

If we had a colossal showing of mass turnout and protest, I do believe we could force the DNC to cave.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Just telling you facts the DNC have chosen Gavin and that who you will get weather you like it or not.

I know conservative media has been trying to make AOC the next Hillary, but I really can't get a feel for how effective they've been. I know the smears have been running consistently for years, now, but AOC is a genuine populist and a lot of the Republican base claims to be on board with those principals. Hillary's policies were indistinguishable from any other moderate democrat.

It doesn't work because their whole schtick has been "hurr durr she so dumb lol" but she's sharp as a tack.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Tbf, there are a lot of negative things to say about HRC, but she’s also not stupid.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

They've desperately tried to paint her as stupid, but they have literally no evidence of it, and when you look at her education, you realize that she's one of the most intelligent people in our government. Way back in high school she was a finalist in a National Intel Science Competition. That was before she double majored in college and was Magna Cum Laude. She's definitely not stupid.

So now they are trying to paint her as a corrupt millionaire who has been using her office to enrich herself, which is hilarious coming from MAGA, but also easily demonstrably untrue. She's still paying off student loan debt.

Their stuff stuck to Hilary because even though they were all lies, she was something of the calculating political animal that they painted her to be, even though the same could be easily said about her detractors. It's not working for AOC, because people see her for who she really is.

As Dem Voters Seek a 'Fight' With the Superrich, AOC is Now Their Favorite Candidate: Poll

The Establishment democrats (the useless ones who have been getting re-elected for decades) will fight to the death against AOC's nomination. Just look at what they did when Mamdani ran for mayor. They were his biggest enemy, not the GOP.

This was AOC's first Congressional appearance on the national stage, as she questioned Michael Cohen about Trump's business dealings. Cohen had taken a plea deal, and was going to prison, but he wanted to tell his story in Congress, in front of the American people.

Unfortunately, several Reps wasted their time as they usually do, posturing and propagandizing, and saying and accomplishing nothing. Cohen had been asked about little of substance, and you could tell he was getting frustrated.

Then AOC's turn came, and she was ready. This was her first national appearance, but it didn't look like it. She was confident and determined. She warned Cohen that she might move fast, and she took off. She launched into a fast series of precise questions about values of specific properties, and Cohen fired back just as quickly with answers, as well as those in Tumps office who handled those issues.

By the time she was done, in less than five minutes, she had uncovered enough actionable material, under oath, that it formed the core of Leticia James' 34 successful felony convictions against him. It was a remarkable political performance, one of the best I've seen in my lifetime.

That was the FIRST thing she did in Congress. She's EXACTLY what we need. I'll vote for her for anything. I'd love her to be President.

We don't want a fight. We want a second Nuremberg trials. And then we want the superrich taxed out of existence, crawling by as lowly "very rich", if they aren't convicted in those trials that is.

I guess this is why I’m seeing people on here call AOC an ‘establishment liberal.’

[–] Greyghoster@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

It’s odd that when the few have most of the wealth that a large number of people sign on to the BS put out by the rich that you only have to work hard and you can be like them.

decades of sabotaging public education does a lot of work there

stupid people are easy to manipulate, especially when 4-5 people effectively control the majority of a countries news industry.

kind of funny seeing how just a small bit of reality slipping through tiktok was enough to threaten this state's propaganda bubble

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago

It's a scam. They didn't get rich allowing some other rich guy to claim the excess value of their labor. They accumulated their own value, and grew their own wealth, not someone else's.

You won't get rich working for someone else. They will.

[–] Lowleekun@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Everything but changing the system. Good luck.

[–] Ascrod@midwest.social 6 points 2 months ago

A marathon starts with a single step.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

And the DNC will still install Gavin Newsom.

[–] Skyrmir@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

While I think she'd do a great job, do we really need to lose 3 times trying to get a woman in the White House? Just because a good portion of the country is angry about Trumps racism, doesn't mean they've stopped being sexist.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

The other two women were terrible candidates. It would definitely be extra struggle for AOC, but she would at least have a chance unlike the past two.
