To think it's fans wanting "more" misses the point. This is the result of diehard fans reading continuation errors, plot holes, and uneven writing with the most good faith possible take on it all.
That being said, any hope of a secret episode was delusional. Netflix doesn't spend a decade and this much money per episode to unlist a True Finale.
I'm somewhere in between on the whole thing. It's a fan theory, and a great one. That's it.
Like, half the runtime of the final episode is epilogue. What else do they think needs to be shown/done that wouldn't necessitate even more episodes?

It is funny that the series finale of that show was so bad people were all like “no that can’t be it”.

Sherlock was one huge let down of a show
Yeah where she has the weird mind control powers and makes Sherlock and his brother do the weird-ass Saw challenges.

I love the first few seasons for what they were but season 4 was just so far up its ass there wasn’t really much helping it.
[Joe] Keery was very direct about the reality of the Stranger Things ending, saying, “The show is all done and dusted, and what a ride it was.” When Keery’s Cold Storage co-star Georgina Campbell weighed in and said, “Stranger Things means so much to so many people, and there’s lots of people that grew up watching it and feel really like they don’t want to let it go,” Keery replied (in guttural tone), “Let it go.”
It kinda sounds like they're all just really done with it. 😬
I heard about the theory, and tjought it wpuld awesome if it was real. And if I was there riding the eps as they came out I would have probably belived it too. But as thedays ticked away, it's cleary theirs nothing more.
