I have yet to understand what people find difficult about this. I'm far from being good as housework, but this never gave me an issue - just bend the mattress a little, boom. Maybe US mattresses and sheets are somehow more difficult?

People put their bed against the wall

And ... ? So do I. You can still easily bend a mattress that's next to a wall.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

yeah but I have to walk around to the other side of the bed to reach the other top corner

that's a long walk for a guy who just carried an arm load of lightweight sheets up two flights of stairs, like let's have realistic expectations here

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 2 points 4 days ago

I just put my knees on the mattress. It's like halfway between standing and sitting!

Some people put their full size bed against the wall and have a mattress thicker than the fitted sheet is meant for

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I still don't understand what difference it makes when the bed is against the wall. "full size" mattresses aren't harder to bend enough for fitted sheets than small mattresses, unless they're also thicker, which AFAIK isn't the norm.

No. Why is it so difficult to lift up the edge of a mattress for so many people? Are you trying to always do it from beside the bed somehow?

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago

I think people are just bad at it. I genuinely don't know what to tell you

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Yeah, but can you fold em after a wash?

[–] Biffsbraincell@lemmy.zip 14 points 5 days ago (2 children)

So you grab the elastic part and shake it out by that. Then try to find the seem. The fold it once or twice, now you roll and ball the rest of it up and cram it in the cabinet before it unrolls.

i just roll the elastic band ones into a tube. its more stable.

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Fold in half > nest the pockets > fold into quarters > nest the pockets > flatten out as much wrinkling from the pocket as possible> fold rest of way like a flat sheet

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Look like a praying monk while doing all of that lol...!

I actually finally learned how to do this at 42 years of age, and I was so happy. Problem is now I can't tell a normal sheet from a fitted sheet when they're folded.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

... fitted sheets aren't the normal ones?

[–] Jaycifer@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I believe fitted sheets have the elastic to fit around a mattress, while a normal sheet does not have the elastic and typically goes between you and the comforter.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Sheets without an elastic seem impractical to me.

[–] PixTupy@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago

In my culture we use fitted sheets on the bottom and normal sheets stay between you and the blankets or other covers.

I've noticed when travelling this is not how it's done in some places though where there's nothing separating you from the covers or duvet.

Why is SpongeBob naked with shoes on?

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Lost ya drawers

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

That wasn’t a fitted sheet, it was your pants!

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

Especially if the bed's in a corner and you're too short to reach

[–] neuracnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 days ago

Especially if you're using those suspender strap clips that you need to lift up the mattress for to clip them on. I feel ya.

[–] runsmooth@kopitalk.net 1 points 5 days ago

I went back to springs, the mattress is no joke heavy.
