Prequel movie interest or opinion doesn't matter, the first game on N64/Dreamcast/PC was incredible regardless. I replayed recently and it's still good. Love the damage model/repairing and being able to buy used parts from the junkyard, and maybe controversial but I vastly prefer Racer handling and course design to Wipeout.
I didn't watch the Disney stuff at all and won't, potentially this scratches the same itch. I hope so anyways. I couldn't get into the PS2 sequel so it's possible to disappoint.
What is AG?
It stands for Anti-Gravity. In the late 90s and early 00s, it was somewhat of a niche genre. Basically it was a racing game where your ride didn't have wheels.

But Redout isn't big enough to bring a lot new AG players in.
This, by virtue of having a budget behind it, and hence marketing, will.
And that's the kind of thing that keeps the genre alive. BNG is fantastic, but it's mostly being enjoyed by people who got into the genre through WipEout.

At least they finally showed more environments than "flat desert junkyard", and some jumps.
Wow. Burnout: Galactic Racer is looking kinda sick.
It's crazy that it isn't. I know it has a couple pod racers, but IMO they fucked up not making it a strictly pod racer game.
Really needs a RPG or at least a rogue lite system on top or it's going to struggle to keep an audience.
Insane that it's not strictly a podracing game.
Graphics look okay, but the handling of the pods looks clunky.
It looks like an AG racer, like wipEout and F-Zero, but with a fresh coat of Star Wars themed paint.
I wouldn't say clunky but definitely floaty; that's part of the genre. It's a feature. It's exactly what I'd expect pod racing to be.
So, canon.
That's what I thought. Looks like something children will enjoy. I'm not ready to take it off my wishlist but I almost did.
