It's better than the book, which has them as a group driving off into the mist and that's it.
Why remake something that was already perfect? That ending was peak bleak.
IIRC, even King loved the ending which is slightly different to the original novel.
King specifically said he preferred the movie ending.
Yea but King is also really bad at writing endings yet frankly the mist is one of his best endings! It lets the reader sink into the possibility of an unending mist and its implications…
Whereas the movie had a dad just shoot his son point blank instead of waiting half a goddamn beat… hell the ending could have worked if Darabont had just shot a few more feet of film showing time passing. Instead it plays more like the lives were inconveniencing the protagonist but then he regrets homocide!
OMG does anyone remember that Mist Television show. Holyshit it was a roaring dumpster fire!
The Darabont movie was excellent, holy moly what an ending!
