Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted associate of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, is set to appear before a closed-door congressional committee today

Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking, is expected to use a constitutional right known as the Fifth Amendment to refuse to answer questions about Epstein

Instead, Maxwell will read a prepared statement at the outset, Democrat committee member Ro Khanna says

The hearing comes after Epstein survivors called for the full disclosure of files held by the Department of Justice following the release of more than three million documents on 30 January

You mean the same Ghislaine who got transferred to a nicer prison after a meeting with Trump's lawyer and then making the statement that "Trump was a gentleman"?

I just felt like we had to remind people of this every time she is being brought to testify about anything.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 32 points 2 months ago

Why should she answer questions? She's in minimum security with work release, because she's protecting the people who sprung her from a different prison. She knows on which side her bread is buttered.

[–] homes@piefed.world 22 points 2 months ago

Even worse: her lawyer is already told the committee that she is going to plead the fifth to every question.

What does she have to gain? NOTHING

What does she have to lose? EVERYTHING.

She worked so hard to be HERE.

Would be insane to snitch when the federal government is absolutely crawling with known pedophiles.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 months ago

I’m exhausted at this wanton corruption.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Can't we just move on and not worry about "who raped who and how old they were"?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Look forwards, not backwards. Upwards, not forwards.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago

Don't look up

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

She needs to go back to super max and have her puppy taken away.

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I can think a lot more worse things she deserves after she helped put children in the hands of violent child rapists.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

She didn't just help. She full on participated.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

My vote is "sent feet-first through a woodchipper running at quarter speed."

Alleged Top Reddit Moderator Ghislaine Maxwell*

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

Whose name has never been mispronounced by the cheeto.

[–] U7826391786239@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

maybe she doesn't want to get epstein'd

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The fact that she hasn't yet probably means she has one hell of a deadman's switch.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Be great if some freak accident set that in motion.

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Didn't you hear the news?

Epstein faked his death, and now he's on his new island with Charlie Kirk in "Valhalla"...

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I would've thought the fifth wouldn't apply as she was already convicted of that stuff.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

The thing about double jeopardy is that it only counts for the single unique act of breaking the law (or however many counts you're convinced of/found not guilty for).

This means that if she admits to any additional crimes that she wasn't found guilty/not-guilty for, she can be charged.

Incidentally, that's why the movie Double Jeopardy is flawed.

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Can always be convicted of even more stuffs

[–] Yawweee877h444@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Maybe this is her deal to stay alive and maybe/probably get a pardon?

It seems like we're mob ruled. Organized crime leading the Whitehouse and all our 3-letter agencies. Maybe this is how it's always been and trump is just making it more visible. Idk maybe not, but it's hard not to conspiracy theorize with all this.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think Trump pardoning Maxwell, will def split MAGA base. It might be just 5%-8% of the 30% diehards left. But Trump needs everyone of that percent.

[–] doctordevice@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago

Unfortunately I think we're way too deep in the propaganda machine for this logic to work. That diehard base will simply not know she's pardoned because Fox News will pretend it didn't happen.

And if they're ever confronted about it they'll do mental gymnastics to get out of any shattering of their twisted reality.

[–] ordnance_qf_17_pounder@reddthat.com 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

shall we burn her at the stake instead?

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone -1 points 2 months ago

Na, that's way too quick. Rape then flay her a bit first. There are a lot of dead, raped, and eaten children due to her. She needs to get a little bit of the same before we send her off

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Send her Mossad ass to Guantanamo Bay
