Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

MODERATORS

cross-posted from: https://news.abolish.capital/post/26088

Demonstrators hurled insults and sex toys at federal agents outside a Minneapolis government building on Saturday to protest the Trump administration's deadly Immigration and Customs Enforcement crackdown on undocumented immigrants and their supporters, with state and local police arresting more than 50 people.

Dubbed "Operation Dildo Blitz," the protest outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building saw demonstrators place sex toys in a chain link fence while others handed out rubber phalluses to protesters who threw them at passing federal and local law enforcement vehicles.

Demonstrators shouted "Eat a dick!" and "Fuck ICE!" as they pelted the vehicles with dildos.

Activist Russell Ellis, who posted video of the demonstration on Instagram, said the protesters "showed real balls."

"Dildos coming your way! Dildos! Dildos!" Ellis barked as the toys rained down on vehicles, landing with rubbery thwunks. "It's raining dicks!"

Anti-ICE activist William Kelly—who was arrested last month after taking part in a protest inside a St. Paul church—said at Saturday's demonstration: "The community here at Whipple today is, you know, doing the right thing and handing out the dicks. People are able to do whatever they want with the dicks, it's their choice."

One protester told VisuNews that they were attending the demonstration "because ICE likes to bend over for Daddy Trump."

Asked what inspired her to show up with a literal "bag of dicks," another protester said she was motivated by last month's fatal shooting of legal observer Renee Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis. The protest marked one month since Good's killing.

"The number one thing that you need to do right now is build community," the woman said. "You need to talk to your neighbors. You need to start organizing. The local police are not going to help you. They are not your friend... so we rely upon each other."

Later in the afternoon, police declared the protest an unlawful assembly before rushing in to arrest 54 demonstrators.

Far-right influencer and pardoned January 6, 2021 insurrectionist Jake Lang—who was arrested the previous day and charged with vandalizing an anti-ICE sculpture—crashed Saturday's demonstration. Limitless Media reported that Lang and others arrived in a U-Haul truck carrying a wooden cross and firing pepper balls and chemical agents at anti-ICE protesters before leaving the scene.

Hundreds of people also showed up for an Indigenous-led Saturday gathering in Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis to remember Good and Alex Pretti, who was also shot dead by federal immigration enforcers last month in the Minnesota city.

Rest in peace Renee Good. Thank you for supporting our immigrant neighbors. You’ll always be our hero. 🕊️ 💜

“This is a generational burden that we carry, and we're seeing that burden again today,” said Gaby Strong, vice president of the NDN Collective, who called Good “the example of what it means to be a good relative, to be a good neighbor, to stand up for people beside you.”

What a stupid protest. It's got all the legal consequences of assaulting a federal agent but none of the intimidation of real assault, and the PR is shitty too

[–] etsy@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

why have meaningful material change when we can just keep the optics up!

[–] TrustedFeline@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

Expensive, too

One protester told VisuNews that they were attending the demonstration "because ICE likes to bend over for Daddy Trump."

Didn't take long for that to get weird and kind of homophobic, did it?

Wtf is it with libs and this shit.

Swear to God.

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They at least subconsciously think being gay is bad, I guess.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago

they definitely think being submissive is bad. homophobia is deeply related to misogyny and some of the liberals are on an angle where it's cool and good to be gay but not if you're bottoming for "the enemy".

Liberals: We support the queer community! 🏳️‍🌈

Also liberals: Haha, Trump is gay with Putin!!

[–] mickey@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Yeah I think they haven't worked through that. I certainly remember hearing stuff like this as recently as the run-up to the 2024 election in person, maybe not so much the homophobic stuff out loud but "Trump is Putin's b*tch!" style things. Edit: I realize that is confusing because obviously that has homophobic implications, I mean that the explicitly homophobic stuff takes a back seat to the feminizing part -- it's late, bear with me.

Edit 2: There was someone at a Met gala or Oscar's type event a couple years back with a dress that read "peg the patriarchy," and it's like no, you are reinforcing the attitudes you are supposedly trying to subvert.

I have defended Hasan on here but frankly this is something he does frequently.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What's Hasan take on this? Just asking because I can't find any earlier mention of Hasan in this post.

I mean that in general talks this way a lot on his stream. Describing servile figures as being someone's b***h or or analogizing obseqious behavior to sexual favors, with pretty graphic language. I don't want to get more specific, I assume you've heard people talk this way. As far as a "take" on it, well if someone asked him to explain himself or justify it he'd probably brush it off.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

Sure, certainly a lot of machismo

tbh hasan has always had a huge thing for reinforcing patriarchy. take his brothel tweets for example. it's one of the many problems with his work.

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

Democrats: look at the cheeto-man and not how we enabled this as being an option for 25 years.

It does come across like the whole point to throw dildos instead of anything else is to have a photo op of ICE agents touching dick.

Maybe it's fine and I shouldn't overanalyze and be overly critical but it's either that or just people being silly 🪿.

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

you're totally right. what else could the point of a "dildo protest" be? every liberal "protest" action against trump ends up reinforcing his/their shared worldview. and the thing is, despite what i just said, i can think of one way a dildo protest could be not that. you're already gonna get charged with assault on a federal officer. what's the harm in also doing assault with a few bodily fluids?

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Aren't those things also like $10+ a pop?

[–] Clippy@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

you could probably get them cheaper from aliexpress/ temu/alibaba

i'd imagine you can get them a lot cheaper if you don't need them to be reusable or sanitary. then again, there's an equal chance a local sex shop saw it as cheap advertising. which i guess i can sympathize with.

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago

Kind of funny but I think this is 'conservatives epicly owned' behaviour

feels like it was done for internet likes rather than for any well thought out purpose

Demonstrators shouted “Eat a dick!” and “Fuck ICE!” as they pelted the vehicles with dildos. A local sheriff’s deputy was reportedly struck upside the head.

lmao

That's actually good but why does it have to be about sex. It's only going to alienate everyone who's not wired to the exact same confused wannabe sex-positivity (because actually throwing dicks at people to insult them is anti-sex, but in a way that also alienate older/religious people so that's just an absolute L)

No matter what you do on the stage keep it light, keep it bright, keep it gay.

Someone needs to explain to me the part about these being "expired dicks." I know that wasn't in this article but I was seeing that elsewhere this was mentioned. go-ahead

[–] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Depending on material, sex toys may have a very limited shelf life. When they show cracks, when there's grains coming loose, they obviously shouldn't be inserted anymore. Don't want one of these breaking in half inside somebody's body or to leave residue inside someone. Obviously glass or stainless steel dildos do not go bad just by sitting on a shelf or in a warehouse, and high-grade silicone can last ages as well if it's cleaned properly and if you avoid silicone-based lube (can't stress this part enough, nobody wants to ruin a cumtube dragon dildo retailing for $150 by using the wrong kind of lube in it). But there's a lot of low-grade trash out there. These jelly rubber thingies, they are basically throwaway items, as we have seen here. Wouldn't surprise me if a retailer had a bunch of leftovers that were in storage for several years and that they do not want to sell anymore.

[–] mickey@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

Thank you for the detailed explanation! It didn't occur to me that the materials could break down over time just sitting on a shelf. When I heard expired dicks it seemed silly that there'd be an expiration date and I suppose that locked my brain out of working through the problem. Reminds me of when a FOAF told a story how when he was in college he'd spin glass as a hobby and make glass pipes. Naturally people's next question was, can you make glass dildos? And his reaction was basically please, for the love of god, whatever you do, do not insert this quality of glass.
