Rock the Country, a music festival critics have labelled a “MAGA fest”, has been cancelled in Anderson, South Carolina, following a series of artist withdrawals.

The Anderson County stop, originally scheduled for July 25 and 26, will no longer take place, as confirmed by county administrator Rusty Burns.

Rock band Shinedown announced their exit, stating their decision was to avoid creating “further division” and to uphold their purpose of uniting people through music.

Rapper Ludacris also dropped off the bill, with his representative indicating a 'mix-up' regarding his initial inclusion.

Couldn’t have happened to a bigger piece of shit.

[–] AlternatePersonMan@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I mean...I can think of one

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 18 points 2 days ago

If only their fathers had pulled out...

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

If this one is painted orange and rapes children then you are doing a disservice to shit. People can do positive things like grow vegetables, etc, from shit. Whereas the tangerine kiddie fiddler has never produced anything positive in nearly 80 years. Nothing, just horrible and disgusting negatives.

Please don't tarnish shits reputation by comparing it to that thing!!!

Ludi will be in the club, mackin some broads and stickin em, while kid rock will be with guliani, picking his boogers and flickin em.

This is just one date of a tour, this headline is intentionally misleading.

Dare I ask? Are Shinedown bad? I get that they pulled out here, but agreeing to this in the first place, was it known how bad it'd be?

https://www.metalsucks.net/2026/02/06/shinedown-exit-rock-the-country-2026-after-drummers-tough-guy-coward-comment-about-ludacris/

They describe themselves as "apolitical", so at best they're little bitches that are fine with the status quo, and based on the quotes here, only pulled out so as to not lose money.

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

Damn, that sucks. I used to like their music.

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago

I think they pulled out after realizing that no one would watch them anyway and would be just a shit show.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They're from Jacksonville, so... they likey hold certain views.

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works -3 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Why is it okay for people on the left to generalize like this but not for those on the right?

How are you any different than someone saying "well they are black, so you know what that means..."?

And look at all your upvotes, how popular it is to treat people like this. How is this a good thing to make assumptions about people we've never met?

I don't think becoming more antisocial is helping anyone.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

It’s closer to someone saying “well they’re from Portland, so they’re probably somewhat open minded.”

These sorts of stereotypes about places are hugely common all over the place (do I want to get collard greens in North Dakota, clam chowder in Texas, or fry bread in Connecticut? Fuck no, even though they could be just as good as their counterparts from elsewhere) and they’re not that harmful IMO as long as they’re not viewed as absolute.

That said, I recognize that I’m essentially arguing in favor of stereotypes, so I’m very open to the idea that they are harmful in a way I’m not considering. And obviously they shouldn’t be used when getting something right is important, like in court.

I feel you, but in defense of the OP, they said "likely", after considering the fact that the band was included in the festival and they do not torment themselves with politics.

We all do this kind of judgment. I don't go to the USA because I'm probably gonna be discriminated as a Mexican. This is not the same as to say all Americans are bigots, but assuming you're American, you sure have some relative or acquaintance that would absolutely not love me there.

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 days ago

Even your example of being treated poorly for being Mexican doesn't apply to all of America. It surely doesn't apply to my relatives or acquaintances.

We all do these kinda of judgments because its a key way our brains work in the moment, and its very useful for survival. That does not mean its always right or useful to do so and we should be thoughtful about when it happens.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

To counter your reductio ad absurdum: Because you choose to live in Jacksonville. You don't choose to be black.

But otherwise you have a point. Judging individuals based solely on stereotypes is wrong. But in this case, this band ALSO says "I'm not political" and ALSO had signed up to play with Kid Rock. So...

I know some really wonderful people who are stuck in Jacksonville but don't fit the stereotype. But they also recognize that it's generally a racist shithole. So if anyone is from there, I'd say it's fair that they lose the benefit of the doubt.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I know some really wonderful people who are stuck in Jacksonville but don't fit the stereotype.

Because you choose to live in Jacksonville

You can't hold both views

No human chooses where they are born. Then for the next 18 years they have no choice either. After that it comes down to economics, career, relationships, and family connections. Many people stay within a few hours of their homes for a lot of life reasons.

Most people don't seriously consider the local politics when living somewhere.

If I move to a right leaning city in the South for a job I'm now racist? Absolutely ridiculous

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The first point was only to counter your but about black people. The second point refines the first and addresses the rest of your post.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

"I made the first point to counter your point. The second supports your point and counters my first point"

Multi track drifting

I'm not even the same user I just wanted to point out the absurdity

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

It's more like saying "they're in San Francisco so they probably hold certain views".

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 days ago

Duly noted.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 7 points 2 days ago

I always knew these new age fascists of the younger generations were going to fuse country music and gangster rap. And metal. Luckily there are about zero bands that don't suck that will knowingly front for these guys. There are a lot of crypto nazi bands though, a lot a lot, but not ones willing to openly nazi it at a festival for nazis.

[–] IHeartBadCode@fedia.io 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Then we have the whole TPUSA, which you can't stop me from reading that as t-pussa half time show.

I hope all the the t-pussas out there enjoy it.

T'Pusa sounds like what they'd say in Yorkshire tbh.
