Child slavery is beginning again

Voting Republican has consequences.

If you think your kids hated you before, let's see how they like you now.

[–] Rune_Walsh@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago

Jane Raybauld, a Democrat, pushed for this because her family owns grocery stores that employ minors. She's a piece of shit.

As a teenager, this would have motivated me to do crime. You aren't going to pay fairly? I'm going to make money unfairly. Anyone who pays under minimum wage would get retribution. Also, kids should band together and not work at these places. And rob them.

[–] RaoulDuke25@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hell yeah. Nice to here some of your generation being sick of this shit.

Lol no wonder. Read it wrong. I've done community activism in my city and the young people don't seem to have that bite in them. Guess I just got happy for a second.

You see, teens aren't people. They're animals owned by their parents. So some of the money goes to animal care costs.

[–] BeautifulMind@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago

I guess the GOP wants to fuck the teens in more ways than one

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 36 points 3 days ago (1 children)

that's bad, my state only follows federal minimum wage, so that's $7.25 for everybody

Meanwhile, the additional costs spared and their consequences for livehood:

If you're a normal/poor person: scraping by -> can't even live paycheck to paycheck anymore

If you're somewhat affluent: okay -> scraping by

If you're a billionnaire: excellent -> excellent (nothing changes)

To be part of the 1%, in the United States you'll need about $USD 6 million. Though living off from money only (i.e. without wage labour) is already "achievable" by $2 million, you then make about $100k a year with a 5% interest if in stocks.

All ye who are not part of the 1%, are the proletariat. Ye who depend on the oligarch have nothing to lose, but a world to gain.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 3 points 3 days ago

You could almost say we have nothing to lose but our chains.

Cant vote but can be worked to death for poverty wages - just one more form of legal slavery

[–] zout@fedia.io 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Like I said in another thread, this has been the case in the Netherlands for at least since the eighties (€4,32 an hour if you're 15, still below €10 if you're 19) . And employers abuse the shit out of it, hiring young people as cheap labour and trying to get rid of them before they turn 21.

[–] Tudsamfa@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Wtf, only 30% of the minimum wage for being 15? What exactly is the company supposed to do with the other 70% to justify that?

[–] zout@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

The justification once was that young people couldn't get a job if someone more experienced would get the same pay.

Work is work, age shouldn't have a damn thing to do with wages.

conservative is to be backwards

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

One state isn't other 49. Don't lump the backwards with the rest of us.

[–] rottenmummy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You have a point, but most recently we don't hear that best of news out of the US. it is especially hard not to do so because the president is a pedophile.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Who's your president, again?

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago

Gregory Bananas

Meanwhile, when I was a teen I had to pay bills and rent, and I was paid MUCH MORE than kids are today (inflation).

But fuck teens, right? Oh, and you're drafted womp womp

[–] pemptago@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 days ago

Children working for low wages: truly a show of a thriving state and a Great America /s

Imagine how many of them are parents themselves, just fuck over 2 generations at once.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

More MAGA winning. This is exactly what MAGA wants to do on a national level.

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

How many affected by this aren't even capable of voting? Fucking evil.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 3 points 3 days ago

Well at least 9/10 is better than 3/5, if we're comparing shit sandwiches.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't really have an issue with this. At $25 an hour, 10% less for actual teenagers is fair.

Wait, did you say $15?

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago

yeah it should at the least be the opposite and raise minimum wage for non teenages. Its low enough.

[–] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world -2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'll say what I said on another thread. At least it's still higher than their age of consent.

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

$13.50 is less than 16 years of age? How does that math work? Is it $2 per year or is there some other formula you're using?

Age of consent in Nebraska, USA is 16. This is easily Googleable (I used DDG though, which uses Bing on the back end). Here's the top result: https://www.ageofconsent.net/states/nebraska

P.S. I broke out the calculator to justify your original statement. To get 15.9 as an age (lower than the age of consent in Nebraska, USA), you would have to consider $1.18 to be the value of each year. In other words, if you really did want to compare $13.50 an hour to an age that is lower than the minimum age of consent (I used 15.9), you would have to value each year to be worth $1.18. Or each dollar to be worth 1.18 years. I'm not sure. I'm not great at math. Maybe someone else can explain that better. I tried to make your argument make sense!

(I think you were trying to say that Nebraska's age of consent is 13, but you didn't think anybody would go look it up.)

[–] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It's a joke. It was a dig at their ass backwards culture of anti-education and intrafamiliar breeding.

You are absolutely correct I didn't think anyone would go look it up, because it was a joke.
