Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Isn’t musk the guy who says there is no free press in the EU and constantly vomits out irrational arguments against “censorship” in Europe ?

[–] thorhop@sopuli.xyz 22 points 3 weeks ago

Whenever he says "censorship", replace the word with "regulations".

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago

The right always uses double speak. They want rules for thee not for me. Everything they accuse other of is things they are doing or intend to do

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

He's the same dumbass that was claiming that the left wanted to make comedy "illegal" (lol, what a load - the times when comedy was being made illegal was when conservatives were persecuting people like Lenny Bruce and George Carlin, so idiots like fElon can fuck right off with that "comedy is illegal" claptrap) and then had people banned for making fun of him on xitter.

As usual, these people are so full of shit.

Why is immigration and customs enforcement doing the Secret Service’s job?

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 30 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Because ICE was created to be a police force without any of the standard safeguards from the beginning. And the leadership now consists almost exclusively of Trump sycophants who will do whatever he wants without regard to reality or laws. So Trump loves them.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 5 points 3 weeks ago

Well, yes. But the question deserves to be asked often in order to point that out.

Vance married a Hindu Indian and said publically that he'd want her to convert to Christianity. What next? He'd want her and any children to take bleach baths to deal with their unfortunate genetic brown-ism.

[–] Jack_Burton@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's being set up so he can divorce her without his "Christian" base getting upset. He'll pull some bs about "no longer being able to live in sin after trying and failing to save her soul" in the lead up to 2028 then hook up with Kirk.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

He's not going to get the succession. No one likes him, that's why the president chose him, because he knew they wouldn't feel safe shunting the president aside to have puppet vance in there. He won't hold the base together, he's not charismatic.

So he can do any and all of that, at most he gets to be nominal leader until the next election. I wonder who will get it, Kennedy would be the favoritie but because of his voice I can't see him getting it. The politician choices are all lacking in charisma.

If you expect freedom of speech and discourse on Twitter/x, you're sadly mistaken. You might as well start wearing a MAGA hat too.

Fuck Elon Musk!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

It's the North Korean version of "social media".

[–] Bullerfar@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

Hahaha, fuck Vance man.

[–] ugandan_airways@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 weeks ago

JD Vance, the least charismatic man in politics and definitely the least charismatic man to wear eyeliner, defended by the virgin-techno-bro-pedo-alpha-male-snowflake-“comedy is illegal” elite. Imagine feeling the need to defend JD Vance so much that you block videos on the social network you own. So alpha! So tough! Free speech forever!

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

However, I do love the idea that some staffer had to call the copyright office and had to file an emergency copyright claim on booing Vance.

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 7 points 3 weeks ago

Ah yes.
"Free Speech"

[–] Aonifall@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

JD Vance sought to emulate the authoritarian tactics of Hitler's Gestapo, establishing a paramilitary-style security force that was distinct from the professional duties of the Secret Service. Such actions were met with widespread disdain, as evidenced by the boos he received at the Olympics. In the current climate, American politicians would be wise to limit their overseas travel, as they are likely to encounter nothing but scorn and mistrust from the international community. In the span of a single year, the United States has gone from being a beacon of democracy that its allies could rely upon to a nation that is increasingly viewed as a fascist state—a disturbing transformation that has justifiably eroded global confidence in America's leadership and stability.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Brought to you by fElon the "free speech absolutist".

[–] SlimePirate@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I am trying to hear the boos but I just hear noise

[–] cybernihongo@reddthat.com 3 points 3 weeks ago

So it wasn't just me then.
