He's a racist. Of course he did.

[–] calliope@piefed.blahaj.zone 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This was literally the guy who started his entire political career in earnest by calling in to Fox News and talking about how Obama wasn’t “American” because he’s black. Trump found his political fame because he advocated the “birther” conspiracy.

It’s honestly crazy that anyone could be surprised. He’s been up front about his racism for fifteen years now.

More like fifty years, at least. He was sued for denying renting apartments to black people back in the seventies...

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Dont forget taking out an entire page ad to defame the Brooklyn Five and called for their murder

Still, americans voted him to rule them.

[–] Vodulas@beehaw.org 3 points 1 day ago

I'm so tired of this refrain. 49% of 64% of US voters voted for him, but even that is an oversimplification. The reality is that in some regions it is hard to vote. Waiting in line for hours. It is not a national holiday, so no pay for taking time off to wait in line. Polls often have limited times, and people in the US work too much just to stay alive. And that does not even take into account electoral college bullshit. The right has done so much to make voting hard or even impossible for some.

The US is vast and diverse, which makes hand waving dismissals like this even more frustrating.

Wut. This is beyond insane, but not beyond Trump.

Please, Americans, be safe. As a Russian, I see all the signs of very familiar shit. This insanity is engineered, and when the feeling of normalcy is blurred, things will go south very fast.

Edit:typo

Trump. Ushering in a new era of green energy by making Lincoln spin fast enough in his grave to produce energy for the whole world.

I’m okay going beyond just punching Nazis. We should string them up publicly like Mussolini and let them fry in the sun, while people throw things at them until they’re dead. Fucking tired of this dumbass country.

What an absolute piece of shit he is! 💩

[–] ExistingConsumingSpace@midwest.social 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is not shocking or surprising. Trump represents white America, and this is pure, unadulterated, white America. The internet has allowed white Americans to be their complete shit selves in relative anonymity to the point that they now realize the majority of their brethren are bathing in the same fecal pools, so that many are emboldened to go mask off. Ask any person of color what their experience is online, and they'll tell you this is typical white behavior, including white women (we see you Stacey).

[–] slacktoid@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To add to your point. So something I found interesting was about 20 years ago when I was a wee young lad, I was curious about racism, cause it seemed so alien to me how can you hate someone just cause of some physical attributes. I found myself in some dark corner of the internet where people were talking some vile shit about black and brown people, and it broke my brain, I think this was even before reddit or 4chan. Then couple of years back a friend of mine was talking about the shit people say on Twitter now, and I was not phased one bit, cause I had already heard it 20 years ago. That space has always been there where people go mask off, it's just grown to a lot more spaces off late. Some people need to touch grass, maybe even smoke it.

[–] ExistingConsumingSpace@midwest.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Agreed, it definitely has always been there. I'm from a diverse family that covers all races, as well as many ethnicities and countries of origin. Even within my family, I've experienced racism, colorism, etc, and it was always baffling to me growing up. I think the internet has allowed the ghouls to finally feel comfortable taking their mask off in public. If we could stop that hate, especially from majority groups (regionally dependant), then we could truly push for societies that lift us all up.

[–] slacktoid@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

Agreed! That is wild but yeah that makes sense all races have that dog in em lol. Especially ones that have experienced colonialism I feel. The Internet for real has done that. I dunno why people felt like they have to say slurs, but like I also feel like some people don't really care to look beyond the surface and are very as long as it doesn't affect me I dont care. Which truly pisses me off. General apathy just generally pisses me off. Like you can say use stats to say x group of people do more crime and end there or look into the underlying factors that lead to that and its just so lazy and uncurious.

1945: the US defeats the Nazis 80 years later: just kidding, the US became the Nazis.

What are you doing about it? We all know how it's going to turn out.

[–] photonic_sorcerer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Haha, they're black, like monkeys!

Fuck, we haven't really progressed all that much as a spieces, have we?

[–] belated_frog_pants@beehaw.org 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Racism is a cancer that must be wiped out

[–] Onyxonblack@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I agree but it won't happen. It's interwoven deep with Tribalism. And unfortunately Tribalism is interlinked with culture... The human species is fatally flawed. Perhaps our tiny monkey brains aren't up to the task physically. Let us all go extinct I say.

[–] kureta@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Social views that are based on "others" and tacitly exclude oneself are dangerous. If you can see the flaws of tribalism and capable of imagining what the right thing to do is, so is everyone else. It will take time, sure. It might take dacades, or even centuries, but defeatism and attributing all negative qualities of humanity to some "others" who just are incapable of thinking for themselves won't help anyone. Culture is intergenerational accumulation of knowledge and it can change. It did change. It shapes human activity more than biology in many situations. And it evolves way faster than biology. This is not a dig at you. All I am trying to say is, if you can see the wrong and imagine the right, there are definitely many others like you, and we can change things. Not you and me specifically maybe (but also maybe you and me) but all the people with a conscience, in time.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

the issue is that it seems quite likely that humanity will always have a subset of the population that lords over the rest of them, and that subset has a vested interest in keeping tribalism alive.

Sure, you can be an optimist and dream of a future that is radically different to how human culture has existed in recorded history, but the realistic expectation is that the widespread education that would need to take place just...won't.

No we just need to evolve. Lucky for us, that's a process that never stops. Our job is to guide evolution in the right direction.

Not sure I would consider the donald a human

[–] darcmage@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I'm sure this stunt is his attempt to distract us from something. This guy has to be the best at being the "racist senile old man" I've ever seen. I don't think he plans anything but he plays the media like a fiddle to get attention any time he wants while avoiding all accountability.

I've never understood why anyone ever took him seriously and I've known people who thought he was intelligent which immediately made me question their judgement on everything.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I love how everything Donnie does is a 4D strategy "to distract us" from the last shitty thing he did. No, it's not a distraction, he's just a piece of shit.

[–] definitemaybe@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Why not both?

That's basically the Republican playbook, in general:

Focus all your messaging on "wedge issues" that appeal to your (prejudiced) base, then pass laws that enrich the wealthy at the cost of their base. Deflect. Blame others. Distract. Lie. It's all distraction, and it's all vile.

I reject your false dichotomy. It's also not 4D chess; it's business-as-usual Conservative politics, and the Republicans are some of the best in the world at it because they now own most of the traditional media and the tech platforms used by "influencers" and most alt media.

[–] luciole@beehaw.org 3 points 1 day ago

I'd bet a loony it's part of a larger attempt at provoking some kind of agressive response from the population so he can justify with his base to crank up the authoritarianism.

[–] mracton@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago

We get it, POTUS. You are a racist POS. Now how about the kids in concentration camps with shitty food and no health care or education.

[–] juliebean@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

yeah, kinda curious what was in the other 49 tweets he made that hour that might've needed distracting from.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And nothing will be done about it

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 4 points 1 day ago

He deleted it, so I guess they realized they had to do that at least I guess?

[–] 68silver@beehaw.org 0 points 20 hours ago

That was fake news. The account that posted it was in Nigeria.

[–] 0xtero@beehaw.org 8 points 1 day ago

USA is not a serious country. What an absolute shit hole.

[–] Nagrom@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago
[–] ChristerMLB@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

the plausible deniability is getting thinner and thinner - this time it was that the whole video was jungle themed, so obviously it had nothing to do with racism!
