They also can’t guarantee Trump won’t shit himself before the top of the hour.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Please don't use Trump's name in the same sentence you use the word top.... The files clearly state has a bottom.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Then I "can't guarantee" that I won't show up to the polls with a fucking flamethrower

It's never wrong to barbeque ice

Boring company would sell you one if you want the bonus points for irony.

So...they "can't guarantee" that they won't break the law? Because sending any kind of federal law enforcement agents to polling places would be highly illegal.

[–] razzazzika@lemmy.zip 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This administration has proved time and again they dont care if something is illegal, they will do it and get away with it.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They'll "try". But they will eventually get blocked. The problem is that it can take time to go through the courts, before they get shut down...and elections aren't going to wait. State legislatures need to shore up their own legislation in advance. That way the decisions have already been made, before they try.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

this is why they won't say they will because that has a chance of causing congressional or legal action.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is why state legislatures need to introduce legislation now. Force the Trump administration to challenge them in court, and get a ruling before it's too late.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

agreed. I expect to see some but a certain party will call it ridiculous and half another party won't support it.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 8 points 2 days ago

But they can guarantee that they are doing it.

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 19 points 3 days ago

ICE is going to be INTIMIDATING Democrat Voters? Wow! They MUST Need some Funding for that! Let's GIVE it to Them!

-Chuck Schumer (D) and Hakeem Jeffries (D)!

This is the same Whitehouse that argues that congressionally controlled independent agencies are under direct presidential control? And now they can't control ICE.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago

Can't guarantee because that is when they are doing their dry run on it.

[–] Greyghoster@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago

They aren’t in control of ICE? There will be ICE wherever it wants to be? I would be ashamed to admit that I had so little control over my private army.

Hate groups go to intimidate Black and LGBTQ+ voters… and they know exactly how close they can get. They can’t go in but you still have to go through them to get in. Should be illegal but you know what Rage Against the Machine said about the ones who burn crosses…

"and early exit polling shows that 100% of democrats have been arrested, 100% of 3rd party voters have been deported to Guantanamo bay, and 100% of white republicans have received a 50% tax increase. Mail in voting from the ruling class has seen a 100% turnout for republicans with a 20% tax cut!"

Such wins for amerika

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (7 children)

Let’s see. There’s supposedly about 30,000 ICE agents. There were 95,000 polling places across the US in 2022. That’s 0.3158 ICE agents per polling location. Talk about impotent….

This is a threat to people who can’t do the math.

[–] warbond@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How many polling stations are there in solidly blue areas?

If I needed to intimidate people into not voting but I only had 30,000 brownshirts I would just be very selective about where I send them, where they'll have the most impact. Sending one anywhere isn't going to do anything, it needs to be a large visible presence in order to more effectively spread that fear.

I bet 30,000 ICE agents at the "15 or so" places where Trump needs a better handle on the voting would be enough to change people's minds about being there. Or maybe even stir up the base to have them come out and "help" the ICE army "monitor" the process. It feels like anything is on the table at this point.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Pretty much everywhere is looking solidly blue right now.

[–] Zamboni_Driver@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

The don't need to send them to all polling stations to make a significant impact.

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

You could very very easily steal an election by sending 10 armed gestapo to 3000 voting locations.

[–] bridgeburner@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They'll just recruit more till the election. With the economy in shambles and people getting laid off everywhere, there are enough people looking for a job, even if it means working for ICE.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Yea but not THAT many.

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

They do not need to send anyone to the areas they know they win. You know, because a ton still votes for them.

[–] Mannimarco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

I imagine for a lot of people hearing there might be ICE agents at the polling stations is enough to scare them into not going

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They're only going to areas Democrats might win.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

which is almost everywhere. Their own constituents are turning on them.
