Just had my first ever CT scan. The technician was utterly lovely while I had a cry.

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

It is scary, glad it's over

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

Well done on being brave and doing it anyway, even though you cried! Hope youโ€™re ok now and nothing serious shows up on the scan.

Arrived at co-working this morning with all of the stuff on my desk moved, obviously someone had decided to make it their home. I go to connect my laptop to my monitor and the HDMI cable is gone. Whoever was here decided to take a little gift with them as well. Thankfully the staff here had a spare cable I could use. But still, who is that low to steal a cable that clearly belongs to someone? Like they yanked it out of the monitor, you don't just walk away with the cable by mistake!

On a lighter note, currently staring at my through one of the office windows is a cat that someone brought to work. I love it, even though it might be stressful for the kitty?

cat in question

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago

depends. Some cats travel very well indeed, some just hate the whole idea.

Cerys hates travel, hates people, hates new places. Punkin hated travel (unless it was in his chariot), but once he was at the destination, he was chill AF and everyone's friend.

[โ€“] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago

The concept of co-working spaces (or any shared spaces) is predicated on people being considerate and understanding they're not the only ones there.

Some people are just morons (or cunts, depending).

Someone at work sprayed lynx on themselves while on the floor. Several of us had to run to the loo to chuck.

Should be an illegal substance, like it should be classed as a war crime under the Geneva Convention.

๐Ÿคฎ I had a similar encounter on a tram recently where a very sweaty/smelly man had attempted to cover up his smells with far too much Lynx Africa before boarding the very crowded peak tram ๐Ÿคฎ๐Ÿคฎ๐Ÿคฎ IT DOESNT COVER ANYTHING UP BUDDY. ITS WORSE NOW!

I just got home and saw there is a big concrete pump a few houses down that I think is the 3D house printer. I will definitely have to walk down for a sqiz once it's cool enough this evening.

[โ€“] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago

Can you get a photo for us if it is? Thx.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 3 months ago (2 children)

a printer house eh, what could possibly go wrong

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago

Runs out of filament - or if concrete, just fil.

[โ€“] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 3 points 3 months ago

They're not a bad idea. The concrete is still reinforced (or it should be) and the process is quicker than traditional brick-laying.

Solidarity my G. I've been feeling like shit for a while. My glands have puffed up these last few days. All my vaccinations are in order so I guess I'll ride it out.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago

Youse guys might be vaccinated but a rest is still a good idea

Update:hmm. The 100% lead paint wall may...not be? Tested that and spritzed the pink swab with vinegar as a control test and it cleared.

grr face

Then i dug up a lead fishing weight and jeeebus schneebus, that pink positive swab did not change one iota after i blasted it with vinegar

So I'm trying to learn to cook better, so by the time I leave the nest, I can actually make some nice meals rather than simply feeding myself in survival mode. It would be nice to be able to cook for people confidently and perhaps host a dinner party. Will be starting very simple with one new recipe a week. First recipe is shakshouka.

The recipe called for tomato paste. My mum is vehemently against tomato paste. My grandma puts it on everything. Debate ensues. I will be following the recipe.

Did an at home yoga sesh (thanks YouTube) for the first time in far too long. I am humbled but gonna stick with it and look forward to feeling more in tune with my body. It currently feels like Iโ€™m operating a mech suit.

OK, it's been 3 days. Monday I went to Kmart and bought a mini rice cooker. Rated for 1-2 serves. I do have a large rice cooker, but its fuckin useless for one serve of rice, being mostly useful for stews or stock or large quantities of rice. Like, 3 cups and over.

So far, I've been pretty impressed with the mini rice cooker. Does 1 asian serve or 2 anglo serves very very nicely. Have yet to give it a real smacking but so far it's a winner. The eyewatering mint green enamel is a minus, but if it cooks up good I'll forgive that aspect. Def worth a place on the countertop when living alone. Yes, I did try cooking poached eggs in it and it did pretty damn good.

TIL one Asian serve = two Anglo serves ๐Ÿ˜‚

Did the standard course a good many years ago. It's actually useful - very very good practice in public speaking. At that point in history it covered all the relevant stuff including how to do the body language. I would actually recommend it. Especially if public speaking or being the centre of a lot of peoples' attention is something that you would like to do better, or at least less stressfully.

Thanks for the insight :)

Lots of senior IT people I've worked with (directors etc) do that stuff because they actually need to interact with other people eventually lol

Tv show recommendation: Pantheon. I noticed itโ€™s now on Netflix. Don't know how to describe it without giving away the plot twists, but itโ€™s an sci-fi animation set in a timeline where computing power has developed enormous capability, and the consequences of that. Itโ€™s a very creative exploration of what defines a human and consciousness. What happens with unchecked unethical tech development. Itโ€™s a real mind bender, recommend it if you like the kind of shows that make you think. Bit of a slow start but worth it.

[โ€“] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 3 points 3 months ago
