I'm sitting enjoying a bit of sun in the Scandinavian winter. A pair of mature ladies are sit down next to me having a conversation. They are talking about funerals, remembering and comparing. Cascets, urns, churches and funeral lunches. One of them circles back to humble bragging about one funeral in particular. "It's the most modern funeral I've ever been to", she says every time.

Hmm my other comment seems to be deleted or at least I can't see it. Can you read the other comment and this?

Edit; oh wait it is deleted by a mod? But why?

Modlog says "Automatic deletion due to block". So, it seems like a bot removed it? Not really sure why though. This comment came through fine.

Okay, thanks. I was just elaborating on the convo the ladies had, nothing particularly sensational about it. Is there a way to summon a mod to take a look at this?

@FireWire400@lemmy.world, @BoozeOrWater@piefed.social: FYI -- possible automoderation issue in this thread. Can you please take a look?

@whaleross@lemmy.world -- if there's a better option for getting moderator help, I don't know what it is. Hopefully one of them is online and can help figure out what's going on and get it sorted. For what it's worth, I didn't see a problem with what you wrote in that comment. Cheers.

I've restored the comment for now

I'm curious to know what triggered the deletion though?

[–] rimu@piefed.social 1 points 3 months ago

I think it's PieFed acting up. I'll sort it.

It just says "Automatic deletion due to block"

I couldn't tell you to be honest. Maybe it was flagged as inappropriate?

My paternal grandfather used to say, "jam a ham bone up my ass and let the dogs drag me away."

I never got a satisfactory explanation for what the purpose of the ham bone was, but I'm not going to kink shame.

I found out about burial at sea, and I like the idea. Just arrange for a deep-sea fishing charter with a cooperative skipper. Family gets a fun fishing trip, and you save a bit on chum.

Unfortunately, my wife doesn't like being in water where she can't touch the bottom with her toe, so I don't think it will happen.

For the record, my grandfather's actual instructions were that he should be cremated and disposed of with no funeral or notice to anyone. My father and grandmother disregarded his instructions slightly by arranging for our immediate family to get together, see his body, and say goodbye in the funeral home prior to his cremation.

It was honestly the least disturbing dead body I've ever seen. He looked dead, but he looked normal. It was not unpleasant. 10/10 would recommend. I've been to a lot of funerals where the made-up appearance of the deceased was just traumatically disturbing.

The hambone has gotta have been the bait for the dog to drag him? Am I the only one thinking that?

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's the implied reason, but I wouldn't think feral dogs would need the hambone.

hey, it adds insult to injury, kinda adds a touch of humor

I'm donating my body to a medical school for dissection. There's a clause in the document I signed saying they may reject it (if I die of something contagious for example), but that's not going to be my problem. After they're done with me I'll be cremated (my loved ones can have the ashes if they want) and my name goes up in the university's memorial garden.
