Why We March

Vilifying billionaires is popular. Losing them is expensive. Most made their fortunes building companies that employ thousands and solve real problems. Their wealth is largely stock in those companies, not vaults of cash.

California benefits enormously when entrepreneurs choose to build here. We're currently watching them leave.

The Billionaire Tax Act has already pushed the founders of Google to leave the state, taking their economic contributions with them. By taxing unrealized gains and voting shares, the act would make it difficult for founders to retain control of their startups.

Calling it: this bloke is a marketing student studying for an MBA and one of his set tasks is to sell an unpopular viewpoint.

Photographed is Garry Tan, CEO of Y Combinator. From https://missionlocal.org/2024/01/garry-tan-death-wish-sf-supervisors/

District 5 Supervisor Dean Preston, whom Tan has pledged $50,000 to unseat through a “Dump Dean” effort, called Tan “toxic and hateful” and asked whether Tan “wants me to die because I stop evictions, house homeless families, and tax the rich?”

Actually, I’m for this. Make chuds be the ones constantly explaining and on the defensive. It ain’t the 2000s anymore.

Every “populist” turns into the smuggest, most insufferable technocrat when we discuss economics. Let them be the ones appealing to “I’m the expert, trust the (social) science!” or “it’s complicated, you wouldn’t understand.”

The balls to list Jeff Bezos as somebody who hasn't done any wrongdoing. He "Didn't steal from you." and "Built a store where you can get nearly anything delivered to your doorstep, tomorrow." from somebody who hasn't worked in those fucking warehouses. They stole 6 years of my life and denied me the college tuition they promised. I got yanked along and called a hero and never got any of the help they promised when I signed up.

"Didn't steal from you" Fuck off.

Zohran's campaign made a grave mistake in not trademarking his colorscheme and font. Also, I would like to draw attention to Garry Tan's bookshelf. If you ever see Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Nick Bostrom and a Boom Supersonic sticker on someone's bookshelf, running away is your best course of action.

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

running away is your best course of action.

running away is your best course of action.

But first: idf-destroyer

Astroturfing is the deceptive practice of hiding the sponsors of an orchestrated message or organization to make it appear as though it originates from, and is supported by, unsolicited grassroots participants.

[–] wombat@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

we may have to start making excuses for the lack of terror

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago

When you’re definitely not terrified the working class will gain consciousness

[–] Soot@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm tempted to make something like this, a professional suck up company, invite lots of bourgeois wealth, then do a sudden heel turn.

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

It would be really funny if someone gathered a bunch of billionaires in one place and then redacted-1 redacted-2

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

Call me when it's a March ON Billionaires

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

i should go to that march with some cream pies and eggs

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

You're gonna go to the march and creampie an egg?! hyperflush

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

no no no, not at all!

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Just go with the classic 🍅🍅🍅

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

I saw that yesterday and I assumed it was viral marketing.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

What makes you say this isn't a bit?

[–] Philosoraptor@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

It at least seems like the usual weirdos are taking it seriously.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The most gullible people on the planet believing it isn't a useful datapoint imo

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Literally just “let’s have no government and we will do whatever we want!”

Who’s going to fill that power vacuum?! honk

WHO’S GOING TO FILL THAT POWER VACUUM?!? honk-enraged

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ideology of a five year old child upset about bedtime

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

Something something everyone twelve.

“Rules are lame! I should just get to do whatever I want!” Of course you think that, you’re twelve!

[–] Philosoraptor@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

I mean, it is if they all show up and march.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

“Umm teacher, you forgot to give us homework” energy.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

Poe's Law comes into play when there is nothing clearly marking it as satire.

[–] znonymous@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

They will never in a billion years get a single billionaire to march and protest for their right to exist.

If it really isn't about class, then why should everyone be a billionaire? Ignoring the obvious jokes about Zimbabwean dollar.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Sowlidarity forever.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

Seems to be associated with this HUGE twitter account: https://x.com/probillionaires
