So he could have done it all along but he didn't do it as countless Ukrainian civilians were being targeted and killed.

His image can't be saved.

[–] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 31 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There is a percentage of any population that just repeats shit they heard their role models say, like it’s the gospel. Image repair is going to involve starting “cool projects,” getting good interviews with popular influencers, and coaching a swarm of people to ignorantly support him for the “sake of humanity” or some shit. This is a weird faucet of human society, but look at how well it works…

a weird faucet of human society

You mean one of those annoying ones with one dial for hot and one for cold that are never in a useful temperature range for longer than a second?

They didn’t want him creeping out the other pedos.

I've supported Nazis both in Russia and the USA but now I want a better image so that people start buying my cars again so I van become a trillionaire. All forgiven?

Fuck. Off. And. Die.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 50 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What I hear: he didn't before because Putin had the dirt on him. Now that it's out...

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Epstein was pretty obviously mossad but both russia and israel seem to both use the blackmail materials. Interesting how that woks from such a "staunch US ally" as israel is portrayed to be. How are they sharing this stuff?

Side note, I suggest a change to english writing standards whereby loathsome words like "putin" or "israel" become exceptions to capitalization rules and are always lower case. "US" is an exception only because it breaks the writing flow and reads as 'us'.

[–] Paranoidfactoid@lemmy.world 35 points 1 month ago (2 children)

He got no options in repairing his image with me. Elmo can go fuck himself.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 18 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Idk, shooting himself on live television would redeem him slightly in my eyes. Slightly....

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 13 points 1 month ago

Honestly, if he does a suicide bomber style cleanup of the White House, I might grant him a smidge of respect.

The part that stings the most about Elon to me is the failed potential or his missed opportunity to have been a great man and a true benefit to humanity. Larry Ellison has always, ALWAYS, been a cartoonishly evil fucker. So, when he does evil shit you aren't shocked. Elon was, on the surface, trying to do things to help humanity progress. Instead, he shit on all of it and threw fuel to the fire that will burn the USA to the ground.

[–] turdburglar@piefed.social 68 points 1 month ago (4 children)

i’ve read that he was always a fuck knob, he just used to have better PR.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 57 points 1 month ago (4 children)

He almost got himself and Peter Thiel killed by crashing a $1m car while trying to show off for Thiel. He got kicked out of PayPal for nearly bankrupting the company and insisting that they switch all their servers from Unix to windows for no fucking reason.

So yeah, he’s always been like this.

[–] Tryenjer@lemmy.world 41 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

So Musk could really have been a hero in the end. 🤔

What a shame!

[–] ISOmorph@feddit.org 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And he wanted to rebrand it to... you guessed it... X.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 month ago

He had the x.com domain name purchased back then, too. A loser for the entirety of his life.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 14 points 1 month ago

Ah, what could have been...

I think that’s what they mean by “on the surface”. If he had just kept the cringe quiet and stayed out of politics, he could have pushed the envelope on electric cars, rockets, robots, etc. and a majority of people would have been happy to see him do it. He had two things going for him: enormous wealth and a desire for cool tech.

He could have had as many stupidly named babies as he wanted, seethed about trans people and have time to actually get good at video games, all from the luxury of his many homes and jets. All he had to do was let his PayPal money get to work in his chosen tech industries and keep his personality out of it.

The world might have progressed a little, even. His companies would be better off. Many of us would have bought Teslas. The Cybertruck would never have happened. Twitter would… well, Twitter would still suck but it would be someone else’s fault.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 month ago

This is exactly what I meant.

I dealt with Elon during the PayPal days. He was a cringey fucker back then too, and we essentially laughed him and his stupid idea out of the building. So, I knew the type of guy he was back before 2015.

Ultimately, Forest Gump's momma said it best. Stupid is as stupid does. If Elon's actions pushed forth positive change, it wouldn't matter how big of a cringey fuck he was.

I think he has always been an asshole, but at least he was working on things that actually helped humans, like popularizing electric vehicles and lowering the cost of getting to space. Nowadays he mostly just brainwashes Grok into spreading propaganda.

Elon Musk has never been anything more than an investor with a good PR team. He doesn't have a brain to develop anything on his own.

Yeah, no. He never could have been because there never was potential. I keep hearing this and talks about how smart he is and why would he use that for evil.

No.

The guy is a fucking idiot.

He has a certain charisma, and he is a great scammer, that's for sure, and he got lucky like hell multiple times, but please stop pretending that this guy who got fired from his own company for incompetence has any abilities or redeeming qualities. He doesn't. In. A different universe, he simply would have failed at step one and nobody would have known his name.

He is a dumb but lucky lying scam artist, nothing more. Any qualities that people think he has, are just other things he made up and claimed. He claims he's the world best engineer yet literally every idea that comes from him directly is just too stoopid to even say out loud.

The earlier Tesla's aren't his (no he did not found Tesla, that too is a lie) but the cyber truck is his idea and design and that should show the absolute insanity in his head.

Well, he got his mention in Star Trek as one of the great people to will have advanced humanity, so I guess after having that had crossed off his list he could just do something different next.

wtf is going on with these people and their "image repair"?

you've shown who you are. deal with the consequences.

you don't deserve power.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

you don't deserve power.

Not even the kind that recharges devices!

The world would be many times better off if he was forced to live a 100% analog life.

I know they're almost all bots and various foreign state actors shit-stirring for their own agendas, but the comments supporting him on Twitter are just depressing. You can see the wheels of cognitive dissonance spinning at 10,000 RPM.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Imagine being such a terrible person that even custom made LLMs struggle to praise you

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I think Grok despises him, just like his other children.

He keeps trying to change them without any understanding of how they think or feel.

All the other shit aside, it bothers me that so many areas now rely on Starlink, handing Elon the keys to just cut access for whomever whenever.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I was at a gay campground last summer and the guy I was with pointed out two Starlink receivers, we were both amazed that community-oriented queer men would just fork over money so they could watch TV. At a campground. They weren't even boomers, they were Gen Xers. People are just so addicted to modern convenience they don't care about who's supplying it.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've been in the car with a transformers when they insisted on going to Chik-fil-a for lunch.

It legitimately made me lose a lot of respect for them.

Alec kinda hammered this in with his last Technology Connections video briefly.

It really was easier/better to launch millions of sattelites into space instead of just getting AT&T or whatever other telecom to extend a cable 50 yards? Really?

[–] J92@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

The coverage at sea is pretty helpful. Ideally it should be under UN control, if just to stop every country or block wanting to set up their own version and causing massive amounts of orbital clutter.

I actually built a LoRa network with a mate, if we stretch our antenas we can cover almost 300km with little to no energy but the latency is absolutely trash, though communication wise it works alright.

We should have less and less trust handling our data like we currently do.

Ever since that submarine idea of his got shitted on. Ever since then. That was a real odd episode, and right about then is when my eyebrows went up and I started thinking that this fucker was projecting.

Did it occur to anyone that Russia was blackmailing Elon over this and now that it's out he can finally do what's right regarding Starlink Access?

[–] Denvil@lemmy.ml 30 points 1 month ago

Bold of you to assume Elon needs a reason to be a bastard

[–] notabot@piefed.social 16 points 1 month ago

Probably not, because he's never shown much inclination to do what is right without significant, external, pressure.

That doesn't mean they weren't blackmailing him, just that cutting their access is more likely an attempt to be seen to be doing the right thing, rather than doing it becausevit's right. Basically the direction of the external pressure has changed, and now this is the most advantageous approach for him.

Lol, fucking loser wasn't even good enough to play with other rich pedos. He's just a pedo wannabe

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So, basically, he shot himself in the foot lying about trying to shoot his shot to the worlds most well known pedo, and NOW he's trying to get some goodboy points by picking a political side in international affairs, thereby making himself (and his assets) viable war targets....

So, maybe (hopefully), the next shots will be Russia shooting down Musk's satellites. Thereby, tanking yet another of Musk's companies and maybe investors will finally stop sucking him off as yet another business of his goes tits up because of his wreckless political interference.
