Office chairs have always been, and probably will always be, the way to go
Yeah, gaming chairs aren't great for being comfy since they are modelled after race seats which are made to make you focus
It's one step stupider than that. Race seats are not made for helping you focus, they're made to keep you physically in place during high g-force situations.
Gamer force?
They are also designed to be reclined when in use, not upright, which is horrible for working with a computer.
Then that's even more stupid 😭
Race seats are designed to hold you in place in high g corners, and keep you safe in a crash. Don’t know why anyone uses one at their computer.
i wish i'd pulled the seats out of my old talon when it got totaled. those seats fit me like a glove. I'd've build my own office chair out of them if i could.

They're great if you're tall, though. I love mine, but I really wish I hadn't done the roller blade wheel upgrade.
Really? I'm not super tall but the headrest on mine is already borderline too low. The optional head pad sits at my neck which isn't ideal. Also are roller blade wheels seriously a thing? Why would anyone want that, how do you move the chair sideways?
Rollerblade wheels are great for hardwood floors, so they don't damage them. They also feel nicer to move around on. Plastic casters are just shit in general.
I actually like having the head pad at my neck.
And like each wheel is replaced by a single rollerblade wheel. I have a desk and two work benches in my office, so the thought was that I could roll easily between them.
But what ended up happening is any slight movement means I roll.
I love mine too. It’s great for my back, but I get why others find them uncomfortable.
Yup. Gaming chairs are just office chairs with a car seat aesthetic for 8 year olds.
I recall in the early dotcom days there were companies who thought every person needed to have a Herman Miller chair. Silly thought but they are comfy.
That actually is how it definitely should be. If you're gonna make someone sit in a chair doing pointless work for eight hours, it better be a chair that's less likely to give them lasting damage. Companies that give shitty office chairs should be sued for endangering their workers.
Hush let the companies give low level office workers great ergonomic chairs. I've spent too much time in bad office chairs
It doesn't matter. Those companies went out of business about 20 years ago, and the new companies have their own chair policies.
And? They are great, and cheap second hand.
My first computer chair once I was living on my own in 96. Oh and it only had 3 legs.
Before I moved out it was a vinyl covered high backed dining room chair I had rescued from the dump when I was 10 or so. My dad and I made a new seat for it from carpet padding and covered it with fake leather.
I loved that chair and the only reason I did not move out with it, is because it did not fit in the back of my VW.
I think those chairs are one of the few truly common American experiences.
My first computer chair was a whole ass couch, pulled up to the desk. No armrests sucked.
Lol my current computer chair is a reclining loveseat. It has its drawbacks but I mostly love it.

My current computer chair is a couch with armrests.
I had a couch about 2-3 feet away from the desk for casual games and movies, then a desk chair in between the couch and the desk for FPS games that I'd pull out of the way when I was using the couch. I kinda miss that setup even though now I have a separate TV setup. At one point I also used a massive lazyboy as my desk chair but that was terrible for using the mouse, id have to be perched on the edge. It was great for falling asleep while watching movies though.
That computer equipment didn't exist before 2006.
People sat on trashcans or kitchen chairs or whatever, new gen needs a special chair to game smh. /s
Jokes aside, I remember watching a video where some pro gamer (Starcraft maybe?) showed off where he learned to play, and it was basically sideways on a crowded credenza in the kitchen.

Any chair is a gaming chair if you game while sitting in it.
As a teenager, I had a nice old easy chair I used when computing, until one of our cats started pissing on it. Couldn't get the stink out, so I had to trash the chair. Fucking cat, I liked that chair. He never did it to anyone else. Well, except he pissed in my friend's shoe for some reason.
Did your friend learn their lesson? Not saying they did anything wrong, but the cat clearly wanted to teach them a lesson!
I'm shopping for a home office chair I'll also use for gaming and it sucks. Basically no stores carry samples in store anymore and those who do only carry those bucket seat atrocities. I'm ->||<- this close to just getting a big ol' lazboy from a relative or something. And I don't have cash for a Herman Miller or whatever.
Find a used office supply store. Wife got a Herman Miller Aeron for $100.

I like my office chair. I have also been known to sit in a folding chair or kitchen table chair. Can’t stand “gaming chairs”. I sit in those things like a shrimp, and mangle my spine.
