Yeah, gaming chairs aren't great for being comfy since they are modelled after race seats which are made to make you focus

[–] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 39 points 1 day ago (4 children)

It's one step stupider than that. Race seats are not made for helping you focus, they're made to keep you physically in place during high g-force situations.

they're made to help you not fucking snap your neck, hence the massive wings on the sides hugging your head

They are also designed to be reclined when in use, not upright, which is horrible for working with a computer.

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 3 points 1 day ago

Then that's even more stupid 😭

Race seats are designed to hold you in place in high g corners, and keep you safe in a crash. Don’t know why anyone uses one at their computer.

it's like how all shoes had to have huge heels, after stirrups for horses became a thing and thus riders started wearing riding shoes.
The heels aren't useful for walking, they literally only exist to hook onto stirrups, it's insane.

i wish i'd pulled the seats out of my old talon when it got totaled. those seats fit me like a glove. I'd've build my own office chair out of them if i could.

They look like most sneakers these days.
Grotesk monstrosities

They're great if you're tall, though. I love mine, but I really wish I hadn't done the roller blade wheel upgrade.

[–] emeralddawn45@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Really? I'm not super tall but the headrest on mine is already borderline too low. The optional head pad sits at my neck which isn't ideal. Also are roller blade wheels seriously a thing? Why would anyone want that, how do you move the chair sideways?

[–] moody@lemmings.world 3 points 1 day ago

Rollerblade wheels are great for hardwood floors, so they don't damage them. They also feel nicer to move around on. Plastic casters are just shit in general.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 1 day ago

I actually like having the head pad at my neck.

And like each wheel is replaced by a single rollerblade wheel. I have a desk and two work benches in my office, so the thought was that I could roll easily between them.

But what ended up happening is any slight movement means I roll.

I love mine too. It’s great for my back, but I get why others find them uncomfortable.
