Wish they'd move to the Fediverse instead of people uninstalling TikTok to install some other app that could potentially change its algorithm or funding at any time.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Bullshit on my end. Just checked another person's ability to search and see Epstein videos on TikTok. Didn't see any censorship there.

[–] charles@social.charles.wiki 19 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It might be algorithmic targeting. Or AB testing. We live in a world where no one sees the same site anymore.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 8 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

man, if people only knew how deep that rabbithole was. At a company I worked at we'd sell ad buckets based not only who people were now, but who our models said they were probably likely to be in the future. It was a goldmine. CTR rate was extraordinary.

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 hour ago

That’s insane, do you know what data it was trained on?

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 1 points 1 hour ago

Shadow posts have been a thing since twitter.

It wasn't just the US. I'm outside and I couldn't write the word in DMs either.

Thus driving the proliferation of alternative platforms, encryption, etc. They can’t put the toothpaste back in the bottle.

…”bottle”? Is it “bottle”? I’ve never bought toothpaste in a bottle, it always comes in a squeezie pouch nozzle thing…

Thus driving the proliferation of alternative platforms, encryption, etc.

I really don't think the average tiktoker knows most of these words

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

Eventually everyone will know them

I though the saying was that you can't put the genie back in the bottle.

Interesting safety feature about the fedverse is that it will also protect your password.

For example, here is mine:

It looks fine to me.

I'm bummed it's gone.

Yeah, and we have like 0.07% of their reach.

You can fool some people some time, you can fool some people all the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time.

Unfortunately, you don't have to fool all the people all the time, 99.93% of the people most of the time will do just fine. Shit, 51% is plenty enough.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, they'll get around to shanking lemmy eventually. We should enjoy it while it lasts.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 44 minutes ago* (last edited 41 minutes ago)

I ain't enjoying shit of this, I just consider it one of the last spaces of the free exchange of ideas and information left. I heard BlueSky is already on the chopping block. Like healthy cells surrounded by metastases, one by one they get consumed.

But maybe I wax too dramatic when I'm tired and drunk, and the morning is young as the old night dies. I can go on, et cetera, alas, and so forth. Hark. Would you render yonder and caress my Sony Trinitron screen of vint most fine? My cask thumps hollow!

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

We like to shit on Tik Tok, but you're right that their reach is absolutely massive. Recently when Democrats were writing op eds and taking out ads saying that troops should ignore illegal orders, a high ranking member of the military (I forget who) commented that the messaging was ineffective because troops almost universally get their "news" through Tik Tok.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Soldiers will obey orders. That's what they do.

My Lai, Abu Ghraib, Kent State, Bonus Army March.

Soldiers aren't trained to be moral philosophers, they're paid to do what they're told

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Be all you're told to be.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

One finger to swipe leaves a hand free for munching crayons.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Proving the point perfectly. They aren't paid to think. They're paid to follow orders.

When the time comes, they will not hesitate to fire upon US civilians, and those who do will be shot alongside them.

Meanwhile, we in Europe have American Billionaires constantly attacking any government or legal body that enforces their own national laws, by threatening to sue and throwing childish insults for suppressing free speech.

Many of us haven't ever had legal freedom of speech in our constitutions, but the reality is we have a lot more than Americans right now.

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

It worked in America, so....

What a joke. I hope tik tok crashes and burns.

They did all of that, because Israel. Because tik tok declined to rig moderation in favor of Israel. They care more about that country than our own. Now what were we talking about, epstein, ahem. Completely unrelated I'm sure, except for all of the child fucking blackmail Israel holds, that might have something to do with it now that you mention it.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I wonder if trump blowing bubbha can possibly be real. Can you imagine. That would do it, if it came out.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 8 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

It's literally the only thing I could imagine being bad enough to go to these lengths over. The Maxwell connection with her father and Mossad is the inflamed fucking toenail they are trying to hush up to hide the gangrene.

It's got to be so fucking bad, like, I am beginning to think that the pedophilia isn't the worst part, more like the tip of the iceberg, and that whatever that shit would uncover would spell the fall of nations, civilization or straight up nuclear war.

[–] delial@lemmy.sdf.org 37 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Worth noting is that among the investors loyal to Trump is Larry Ellison, renowned massive turd of a human being. Just totally coincidentally, his festering dingleberry of a son David Ellison is the person that installed the pro-genocide propagandist Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief at CBS.

Unrelated: Do you ever wonder how tender billionaire flesh is?

No I don't. I just like the sound it makes when it slices.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 23 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Better get used to it. The oligarchs are swallowing up all the media companies in the US.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

They're actually already basically done, since like a couple of months ago or so. It's kind of pretty very extremely fucked up!

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 1 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

MS Now/MSN seems to have honest reporting (at least some).

[–] sobchak@programming.dev 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

They are establishment Dem propaganda. I've noticed recent instances where they seem to be somewhat complicit or cagey with their language regarding all the fucked up shit that's been going on. I.e. using language like "some people argue," instead of plainly stating obviously illegal or fucked up shit. Their rebranding to MS Now was specifically to distance its brand from be a "resistance brand," according to the CEO.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

MSN is owned and operated by Microsoft Corporation.

MS NOW (formerly MSNBC), is a cable news channel owned by Versant Media Group.

Versant Media Group is an independent publicly traded company, after they spun off from Comcast.

Comcast CEO Brian L. Roberts and his family retain significant share holder control.

He's a billionaire that paid tons of money to both parties (let's pause and think about this for a moment because as obvious as it is to all of us, we tend to forget that it is not normal to live in a two party state no more than it is living in a one party state), leaning mostly republican.

So, I guess, as billionaires go, he's not the worst offender. But, as billionaires go, he will always do what is financially expedient- that's why any rich person pays both sides, so that regardless who comes out on top YoY, they win.

“It’s time to investigate,” he wrote in a post to X on Monday night. “I am launching a review into whether TikTok is violating state law by censoring Trump-critical content.”

What are "things I'd rather be said by my opponent rather than my ally" for 500?

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 17 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

They've said publicly they intend to turn it into a MAGA-first platform. And now people are surprised?
