/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

You might already know this, but it's not originally a RatM song.

It's by Afrika Bambaataa and Soulsonic Force

RatM did do a lot to make it their own thing though, and it's a great cover.

That whole album of covers is fantastic. Most notably "The Ghost of Tom Joad," made even better with the live performance between Morello and Bruce Springsteen.

Now I'm on a RAtM kick. It's been a while, but probably a good idea right about now.

Bulls on parade ✊🏼

Yes, I'm aware of that. The two versions are both fantastic, and very different.

He did say it respectfully.

Is that the guitarist of Rage against the machine?

Oh, holy fuck, how did he end up in Star Trek?

Per Memory Alpha:

In 1998, Morello – a die-hard Trekkie – contacted Star Trek producer Rick Berman and asked to have a cameo in Star Trek: Insurrection. Berman agreed, as his son was a fan of Rage Against the Machine. Despite four to five hours of make-up and the high temperature in which they were working (they were filming in the desert), Morello states that he "was on cloud nine because I got to talk to Jean-Luc Picard" (referring, of course, to actor Patrick Stewart). I like that this one goes both ways:

In his capacity as guitarist for Rage Against the Machine, Morello had Voyager star Garrett Wang appear briefly in their video for "Sleep Now in the Fire." Wang is seen enjoying the music at about 2 minutes and 10 seconds into the video.

He told Captain Janeway to go to the left

If not for that, she wouldn't have found ensign Jerk-face. Then we never saw any of them again.

Then we never saw any of them again.

Tal Celes was in The Haunting of Deck 12.

I’m so bothered by the character’s name. Does the character go by their first name Celes or Seven not know their surname is Tal?

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

As a Bajoran, wouldn't Celes be her proper name? So they would presumably have to be on good terms, like Odo referring to Nerys instead of Kira.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

The naming custom is the surname goes before the given name. In β€œEnsign Ro”, Picard mistakenly says Ensign Laren. He is corrected, being told that her surname is Ro and some Bajorans try to fit in, reversing the structure.

I would think that Seven would be more comfortable within the crew dynamic of Voyager, addressing her by their surname.

EDIT: Being an xB, I would imagine Seven would already know this from Unimatrix Zero assimilating some Bajorans.

Forgot she actually got a 2nd appearance. Mortimer and Billy, not so much.
